i dont know what my aesthetic is but im pretty sure itâs exactly this tweet
I would pay top dollar for a comprehensive, source-supported explanation of how Superwholock vanished.
LikeâŚâŚ..that was the core of tumblr in 2013. Its tainted life-blood. Its fetid royal palace. Destiel this and Johnlock that. Tardis-in-the-impala-at-221B URLS. Bendydoot Cucumberpatch and long analytical debates of which doctor is best doctor
What caused the end? What destroyed it? What series of events sunk this fortress? Iâm so. So curious. This was so much of what tumblr was. So unavoidable. Itâs cultural history. I want. to know.
So Iâm not completely sure but I think you can pinpoint the disappearance to the month following Dashcon. Like, the entire year prior, things were going fucking insane; The DW 50th anniversary, Sherlock returned after a hiatus, Dean became a demon or something I donât remember. Point is, the fans were worse than ever.Â
And then Dashcon happened: All those people got together for a nightmarish event in the ball pit (for anyone who doesnât know what Dashcon was, look it up and read any of the news articles about it. I promise, you will not be disappointed).Â
Now, I wasnât too active on tumblr at that point because of school reasons, but I remember finding out that the new season of Supernatural had aired on TV, and I saw NOTHING about it on tumblr. Not a single post on my dash. It was a miracle, but I was so confused. How had the whole fandom just vanished like that? I still donât know for sure, but it was very shortly after the Dashcon incident.Â
Then Doctor Who returned. New doctor and a new companion. Same scenario. Nobody said anything online. I was still big into DW so that was kind of a bummer but it was still astounding.
I went back online more readily and started realizing that fandoms, as I had known them, were essentially dead after that summer. It was like everybody simultaneously realized how toxic those communities were after they all got together in person and proved themselves to be a disgusting bunch.
It was the fastest and most unsettling jump in internet culture Iâd ever seen. Overnight it became an embarrassment to admit that you were in a popular fandom. All because of fucking
âSuperwholock died as a result of Dashconâ is the most fascinating theory Iâve heard in a while amazing
(And you know, seasonal rot and kids getting older and all that but s t i l l)
My personal theory is it was because of hiatuses and competition!
- Hiatuses: Sherlock especially, but the long Doctor Who mid-season breaks didnât help. People wandered off. Some of them to very similar shows, like Elementary, which fought initial fan scepticism to become THE Sherlock alternative.
- Fans became more critical. All three shows frequently come under fire for their treatment of women, LGBTQIA people, etc., and without new content fans had no option but to rewatch and reexamine the same episodes over and over again. Their flaws became more obvious on repeat viewings, and the comparison to new arrivals like Elementary didnât help. I imagine there were other competitors too, but one would need to do more research to see how relevant they are here - cartoons like Steven Universe and Gravity Falls, maybe? WtNV? OUAT and OITNB? All of them are much more obviously diverse, so Superwholock starts looking bland in comparison. Thereâs also the quality-comparison argument (Doctor Who is not as good at plotting as a lot of other things), but I reckon that goes without saying.
- Fandom backlash! You either die a hero or live long enough to become a villain. After events like the Mishapocalypse and the infamous FANDOMS GRAB YOUR WEAPONS post Superwholock became shorthand for the most obnoxious parts of Tumblr and fandom, so more people starting distancing themselves from it (see also: how Bronies killed the MLP fandom). And, yeah, it all came to a head with the Dashcon Clusterfuck 2k14.
- Fandom Backlash II: Your Fave is Problematic. Every popular figure from Joss Whedon to Taylor Swift is eventually the subject of text posts and screencaps dragging their name through the mud. Steven Moffat, Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, and Jensen Ackles (I believe? It might have been Jared Padalecki. I donât really follow Supernatural) have all had plenty of this.
IN CONCLUSION: there wasnât enough new stuff being made. People found their own new stuff, which in many cases they found more appealling. People became less forgiving of the old stuff, its creators, and its fans. Eventually enough time passed that they gave up on the old stuff completely, so when it came back they werenât interested.
(granted this mostly comes under the seasonal rot and kids getting older points but I didnât notice that until Iâd typed this out, and it seems a waste to delete it now :P )
Itâs like Iâm reading the end-result of an assigned essay topic I handed out last night. Iâve forgotten so many things from the 2013 era you get an A+
As someone who was once a superwholock fandom bloggerâŚ..the answer is that literally all the shows went bad at once. Moffat was in charge of TWO of those shows at the time, fucked the plots and dynamics up, they werenât really worth blogging about anymore.
As for SPN, fans had been talking for a long time about how it had dragged on for too long. Theyâd already been dropping fast, and the new season was justâŚ..dull. Boring, slow, repetitive. All the blogs I followed said the same thing. The new seasons of all three of those shows were disappointing, all at the same time.
I used to be a superwholock and birobotic is absolutely right. Everything took a nose dive so we moved on to better things
*pretends to be shocked*

executive dysfunction
Hello me
âDo you have any special skills?â
I can turn a simple task into a month long cycle of procrastination and disappointment
mpreg
since no one seems to be happy with lgbt, mogai, or any other acronym or umbrella term, i came up with a new one that i think is gonna cover all our bases:
mpreg = marginalized people of romantic, erotic and gender
hey OP are you open to constructive criticism?Â
The official trailer of the feature film Iâve been working on last year at cartoon saloon is online!
It was a great experience and I learn a lot during that time working next to such brilliant artists.
I hope youâll enjoy it!
Iâm so happy, itâs been literal years since Iâve fanboyed this hard over a show, (aside from when Patrick Stump was in Star Vs, I fucking died when I recognized his singing. I was so happy I temporarily forgot about how much I dislike FOBâs new music (All things considered, Patrick is still an amazing vocalist))
And itâs not even a super *amazing* show, but it still manages to hype me up, probably cause it reminds me of exactly the kind of thing I wanted to make when I was like 15 (arguably the most creative period of my life) I have such a giddy, pure (barring the porn) adoration of it. It feels so nostalgic. And I think that might be why itâs blown up in such a short period of time.

I really dig how Hollywood is starting to figure out how to conserve these really stylized 2D looks in 3D animated films I hope we see more like this in the future
probably the best thing about them is that theyâve adapted a look thatâs detailed but not realistic
you can see patterns in the clothing and texture in the hair but not every single pore on captain underpantsâ face
Why do people worry about this on their free time
cuz we care about animation? and what to see it get better? why even ask this question
dr. flug more like dr. sub mirite
The Babadook (2014)
Itâs not a crime until you get caught
also i think yall fail to remember what made the âoncelerâ thing such a ridiculous disaster to begin with: the problem wasnt âteenage girls like himâ, the problem was that there wasnt any fandom for the thing he was FROM to begin with- it was all centered around the singular character with no real personality. The Lorax movie was completely forgettable at best, with the apparent exception of the Oncelerâs design. This whole nonsense lead to au upon au and selfcest shipping and taking ridiculous minor things and turning them into ask and rp blogs because there was nobody in that movie that fans could ship him with that wouldnât ultimately either be pedophilic or zoophilic.
Sans, the other widely-cited example of this (who is ultimately actually zero percent similar to the onceler aesthetically or personalitywise. hmmm its almost like a character doesnt necessarily have to fit an archetype to accidentally make a fandom go absolutely wild) has been driven into the ground with AUs and ships and weird porn, but ultimately, Undertale is still a REALLY good game, and thereâs still a fandom separate of the Sans nonsense thatâs there to hold it up- if there wasnât an Undertale fandom, there likely wouldnât be NEARLY as much of a following for Sans.
The problem you guys are hysterically projecting onto any tall, well-dressed figure is âfrighteningly strong adoration without anything to back it upâ, but nothing quite like the Onceler Fandom has EVER happened since. Thereâs been adoration of particular characters, but nothing quite as extreme as that, and thereâs always been an actual fandom of the thing the character was from behind it, so it wasnât completely out of the blue or uncontrollable.
My point? Calm the hell down, thereâs bigger problems out there than People Liking A Character A Lot.
