We are concrete individuals in a physical world, however we come from an abstract source. The emotion of that limitlessness was best understood to me through the gradation of these colors that I applied to the signature python pattern on this particular shoe,ā says Ehsani.Ā

Remember when I told you the for the Kick of it Crew were participating in Nike Women Los Angeles for N+TC? (oh nah? .. let me refresh your memory and have you click here.)
Well .. we went, we saw, and we definitely CONQUERED.
A great initiative that boosts empowerment, over 2,000 women came together to pursue their #betterforit journey - a journey that encourages women to go out there and put their fitness goals test by living an active lifestyle. By bringing us all together, we were able to raise $10,000 for the Beyond the Bell program which is LAUSD's after school program dedicated to keeping kids active after school. That, my friends, will remain forever dope.Ā
The weekend started with a preview into their Nike SNKRS Courtyard, which was a celebration of women's footwear through the lens of sport, style, art and music with a panel of special guests that will speak to why Los Angeles is a city like no other.
Following that day was the main event: an individualized curated agenda of workouts that ranged from running to spin to POUND (which btw, Iām super obsessed with).
We even got to sit down and have a chat with singer and runner at heart, Ellie Goulding.Ā
A mural by graffiti artist and painter, hueman greeted us where everyone was instructed to write their own positive affirmation underneath.

The Air Max Box was a cubic, LED charged retail space set up in the middle of the ever-developing Arts District in DTLA. Upon arrival, there was a line snaking around outside as I'm sure kids were camped out for hours, if not overnight waiting to get in.Ā
Inside THE BOX was a stimulating futuristic setting featuring past Air Max sneakers that were suspended like museum articles cryogenically frozen or time capsuled. Prominently displayed were the "new" Air Max Zeros, which were actually the very first Air Max design sketched out by Tinker Hatfield back in 1986.
There were kicks everywhere - in tubes, on tables, in the floor, being 3D printed - the full Air Max experience. So many things to look at! Once you stepped outside the glowing box, there was Los Angeles-based painter and designer, Tristan EatonĀ throwing up a mural, nail art stations courtesy of NCLA, and Jason Markk shoe cleaning chairs. A fine Nike production as always.Ā
The new Zeros for women are super hot, and available in six floral colorways representing six major cities: New York City, London, Shanghai, Tokyo, Paris, and Milan.

I never quite understood the hype regarding the Nike Air Max ... until I put my foot in one. I felt as though I was walking on a cloud. I couldnāt comprehend why my feet have been in anything else but an Air Max.
Yes, it is an iconic sneaker because of the visible Air Cushioning technology but as time went on, I realized its the versatility that has allowed it to become a favorable shoe, especially for women.
My personal favorite are my Air Max 90Ā āatmosā in tiger camo. The sneaker features a black leather upper with reflective tiger camouflage and a snake skin swoosh, along with a speckled midsole and accents in Orange Blaze. When I first wore them, I had to (of course) rock my tiger head t-shirt (tiger head...tiger camo...GET IT?) with some denim cut-off shorts whereas on another day, I was able to style themĀ āupā with leather shorts, a striped t-shirt and embezzled necklace. I donāt usually wear shorts and sneakers often but Iām definitely more comfortable putting the combination together with my Air Max.

My dear friend and rapper, Deena Jonez is definitely the Air Max connoisseur. Her collection is one to envy. You can check it out on her Instagram page if you donāt believe me.Ā
When asked what makes the Air Max such an iconic sneaker, Jonez replies, āI think it's because it's one of the first running sneakers that was also fashionable to wear. Air Max sneakers can literally be worn and look good with anything. They're really comfortable and the design is simple but dope and timeless.ā Her favorites to wear are the Air Max 1s and Air Max 90s.
Everyoneās favorite sneaker illustrator, Caroll Lynn (bka careaux) absolutely loved her Air Max 1Ā āMorning Gloryā. It was released in 2005 as part of the Powerwall/3 Decades of Cushioning collection.
This Tier Zero pair became an instant classic thanks to its textured black upper set against a bright pink midsole. If she had to create her ownĀ ādreamā Air Max, Caroll would incorporate pinks, greys, and different fabrics .. influenced from theĀ āMorning Glorysā seen above.

According to Samia, what makes the Air Max such a stand-out sneaker is that ā[the] styles were all about new technology. However, the designs and the colorways contributed to their crossover from athletic-wear into fashion. I still remember the silver Air Max 97 being featured in a Vogue editorial paired with non-athletic apparel in the 90's.āĀ ā[The] Air Max is iconic because the visible air reflects what Nike does best, which is to create innovative technology that evolves and tells a story with over time,ā adds Lois.

In regards to styling, Samia acknowledges it is more lifestyle for her:Ā āI wear sneakers all the time so for me it's not as much about styling but just lifestyle. Our creative platform The Snobette (formerly Highsnobette) is all about mixing style influences irreverent of trends. We're all about rule-breaking individualism with an emphasis on streetwear and emerging designers. I would wear the Airmax 97 with slim cropped black trousers, a fitted black turtleneck, a Zana Bayne suspender harness piece and a long black cardigan. (I tend to wear a lot of black)ā. Lois could easily be seen in a pair of Air Max 90,Ā āAir Max 90 all day everyday; many of the Air Max silhouettes have softer edges but I like how the 90 is more angular and has an almost triangular heel.Ā These shoes are built to be worn with skinny denim because they add some nice weight to the overall look of the silhouette.ā

The Megatron of sneakers, better known as Nike, recently unveiled the Nike Flyknit Lunar 3 - the third generation of a shoe loved by running enthusiasts.Ā
Nike teamed up with New York-based Creative Director, Jen Brill (who is known for her unique and innovative partnerships with some of the most prominent names in art, fashion and design.) and illustrator, Jo Ratcliffe (one of a new generation of creatives who are redefining the look and function of fashion imagery today) to create a fun, inspiring video that tells the story of the Flyknit Lunar 3:
āThe Flyknit Lunar 3 combines what runners love about the Flyknit Lunar shoe with evolutions of two of our best innovations and technologies together,ā says Rob Williams, Senior Design Director of Running Footwear. āWe listened to what athletes loved about the shoe and evolved the Flyknit design to deliver more of the superiour strength and snug support on top of an even lighter Lunarlon ride.ā
The Flyknit Lunar 3 construction is an evolution in design with a tighter knit structure in the heel for support and a looser, more open knit structure in the forefoot. What does that mean? - increased breathability and stretch structure placed specifically where it is needed.
Can't wait to get your hands on these beauties? The Nike Flyknit Lunar 3 is available beginning February 15, 2015 in a nike.com exclusive colorway (what, what!). It will then be offered in 12 colors for men and women beginning March 5, 2015.
It certainly has been a while, hasn't it? Moving 3,000+ miles and switching coasts isn't a simple task. In less than a month, I moved from Brooklyn back to Queens to my parents' (home base), packed all my stuff from there, sold my car and moved to the Left Coast; better known as California.
The days are brighter and the temperatures are certainly warmer but that doesn't mean I don't miss New York. I miss my bodegas, my Bake and Saltfish, my Dad's curry and more but California is where my heart is right now. And what better for a first official post than at the place that I currently reside at.
On a beautiful day like this, I decided to rock my Melody Ehsani x Reebok Classics "M.E. Holiday Pump" (only fitting to rock the LA-based designer). This limited edition pump arrive in a cute heart-shaped bag and was created to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the iconic Reebok pump. I paired them with a Yeezus shirt cause I mean, why not? Anyone who knows me knows I'm a Kanye West fan so there's always a good reason to get my Yeezy on.
I can't get enough of Aviators and I love my Blue Ray Bans (I was tempted to get the green ones but had to control myself). That and my Heroine MAC Lipstick went really well with this predominately black outfit and helped bring out the colors in the kicks.
I'm looking forward to showcasing all my adventures in California. This is definitely a movement for the books. It's officially one week before Christmas and I know some of you will be out this weekend hunting down the last of your gifts like The Running of the Bulls in Spain. This is what I wait for... Pantone officially releasing the name and shade of their next color of the year. 2014 was Radiant Orchid, and Emerald sat on the throne the previous year. This time around however, the good folks at Pantone took a different approach. They chose the earthy, warm hue Marsala... a color that has many people going WTF, but just as many nodding in understanding. I, for one, am all about the switch up to something a bit more rich as opposed to bright. It was rough figuring out how to do a bright color like orchid in October.
We ladies are patiently waiting to see what fun clothes and shoes (heels, flats, kicks, boots, ALL OF IT) hit the market in this color. Being the impatient human being that I am however, I did some digging. Would you like to know what I found? A few fun pairs of kicks you can rock NOW in this color. And what can you wear with it, you might ask? You know I got you.
Marsala + Denim-on-Denim
Olivia Palermo + Zoe Saldana can do no wrong. Hence why their flawless rendering of the denim-on-denim look is the perfect match for these iridescent Vans. It's an easy, comfortable look that is not tight as all hell. Those of you on the fence about Marsala, this is a good way to test it out.
Marsala + Dark Neutrals
The detail of this blouse (sheer with an opaque panel) with dark denim is a must-have match. Throw on wedge sneakers in place of the leopard print loafers and you're done.
Marsala + East Coast vs. West Coast
Y'all know Alissa flew the coup that is our beloved NYC in search of sunshine + new opportunities out in Cali. So while I get to enjoy the drastic changing of the seasons, our girl will be (for the most part) basking in the sun. I'm looking to keep Marsala paired with similar wintery colors like olive and navy, while she might be looking to keep it on the more airy, light side of the color spectrum. *Side Note* Can somebody tell me what Halle Berry is doing with her life? Because whatever it is, I need to be on that plan. Two babies + still looking like this!

For our ballers out there. I briefly mentioned a few weeks ago these high end designers creeping into the sneaker game. Between YSL and Louboutin, I can't even be mad. Now I can rock a pair of his fabulous shoes and *not* worry about arch pain or busting my a$$ in those heels. Pair these with that work look if you're wearing pants or a more fitted dress. You can't go wrong.
Nike Dunk Sky Hi Milan
If you were lucky enough to get your hands on these when they came out, do yourself a favor and wear them with that Christmas dress or slick black leather pants with a black shirt. These might be one of the dressiest pairs of sneakers ever that can also very easily be dressed down for day-to-day.
Vans Perforated Black Slip-Ons
Let's talk about it: Rose gold brushed metallic leather, an eye-catching detail on said leather and comfort for days. It's a win-win. You should chuck that sequin dress, throw on something in a gunmetal grey with some navy blue, then pop these on. You'll never need that dress again.Ā

Sorry - any time I meet a fellow Queens cohabitant, I feel compelled to shout the name of my lovely borough in respect for all the greatness it produces. Sophia Chang, my friends, is nothing short of this greatness.
Hailing from Queens, New York, this spirited lady has grabbed life by its reigns and continues to ride to a glorious path. Starting her career in art and design, Sophia's passion, energy and love for streetwear and its culture has caught the eyes of many.Ā
She makes really cool illustrations (makes me wish I could draw), has a keen eye for art directing and styling (she's currently the art director for UNDO magazine), launched her own collection with PUMA (yup.), loves hip hop (duh.) and can rock a bun like nobody else (puts my bun to shame)!

Your world of illustrative design has now taken you into fashion design. Did you ever envision you'd be involved in the world of apparel and footwear?
Drawing has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. I used to draw in a little notebook that I carried around everywhere. Whenever I had a chance, I would doodle.Ā Ā When college rolled around, I applied to Parsons. Low and behold I was accepted for Fashion Design. I guess you can say I went from jackets to canvas panels. However, after a bit of time, I realized that I was unhappy with the major ā mainly because of people I was surrounded by.Ā Ā Growing up in Flushing my friends and I were very much into street wear. We would wear The Hundreds, Staple, aNYthing, etc., all those, at the time, young labels. After meeting Jeff Staple on a train ride about a year later I was doing illustrations for Staple. I was creating designs for an individual and label I respected and admired. That is why I feel it is so important to follow your own interests and set your own goals.
How different is it to design street wear and sneakers versus print making and graphic design?
The process is not all that difficult. As an illustrator I am familiar with having my work applied to different graphics from packaging, clothing, magazines, tote bags and more. Iāve had previous experiences working on production design and fashion design through an internship so Iām very well versed with the process. As an illustrator designing a shoe, my experienced understanding of material juxtaposition, color palettes really came into play. And of course my own understanding of being a sneakerhead, what looks hot and what doesn't. It was a really exciting experience and I canāt wait for future opportunities to work like this again.

When conceptualizing, where do you grab inspiration from? Would you say your hometown of Queens, New York plays a role?
Iām very fortunate to be in a city thatās the best city in the world. The center of creativity, New York, New York. My inspiration is influenced by everything around me; a lot of my ideas come from living. I have great friends who also inspire me, and I love digging for inspiration on the internet. Whether I am riding the subway or surfing the web, the objects that I am drawn to consciously and sometimes subconsciously influence my mood and interests.
Ā Your collection with PUMA, how did the collaboration originate?
Its a funny story really. I was traveling on vacation and met a friend who happened to work there. A year after the trip I received a call about this idea and totally went for it!
What was most important to you to convey when designing this particular line of streetwear? Who is it targeted for?
I wanted to offer something for everyone. There is a menās line and a womenās line, but I wanted to design a collection Iād want to wear. I wear menās clothing; menās tshirts, hoodies, gestures whatever. So the menās and womenās lines are similar if you look at them. In terms of my fashion influences, just because I grew up in NYC, streetwear has always been a huge influence in who I am. The womenās pieces are more fitted but the pattern is very unisex, very interchangeable. A Black and White shoe is always a classic in New York. I wanted to pick some trendy colors as well so I brought in various tones of blue and a hit of pink. The combination of colors and materials used for each shoe varied to offer a different taste for every consumer. Your uncle/aunt who is still into sneakers, your hypebeast, the girl who loves to look cute, and the trend setters.
Obviously, our eyes have been locked on the footwear you've designed. If someone were to ask you the best way to rock them, what would you say?
The minimalist look has been so in this season. Black, White and Gray never goes wrong in NY. It goes with any sweatpants kit that's hot this season.
Do sneakers play a big part in your day-to-day style?
Absolutely. You rarely see me in heels or shoes. I wear sneakers because they're comfortable and you never know when you have to sprint to catch a light in the street of New York.
Ā How do you like to wear sneakers and tell us which few are your favorite and why?
Really depends on my day. If I plan on walking a lot that day Iāll have to wear something with more support and base. If I have to stop by the gym Iāll need to pack for the occasion. Of course the weather comes into play, if itās hot some kicks with mesh vents in the toe cap would be great. Winter shoes with cushioning always help to keep your feet warm in the harsh NY winters.
Ā Who would you say are your favorite design/style icons?
So many people. To be superficial I think Rita Ora is gorgeous ā although I've never heard any of her music or care much to. I do respect a lot of designers. One of the people Iād love to highlight is Johanna Schneider. She is a designer for a brand called Acronym which ties in a lot of technical wear, technical fabrics and beautiful designed garments that serve so much form and function.

Forever Young: Celebrating 25 Years of the Reebok Pump
If youāve been following the ladies here at for the Kick of it for the last few months, you know we have a deep appreciation for Reeboks. And as we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving and all we are thankful for, a pair of kicks we are super thankful for celebrated their 25th Birthday earlier this week.
November 24th was the official birthday of the Reebok Pump, the innovative sneakers that were the first to feature an internal inflation system. Weāve all seen movies from the early nineties, or remember our favorite basketball players āpumping upā before taking the court at a game. They became an incredible fashion statement.

What makes this event even more special is the way that it brings out local artists to do their thing, and share their craft with the world. In addition to Ab-Soul, rapper Kid Ink hit the stage to close out the show.

And in honor of the Pump's 25th birthday, she is releasing a special Holiday version of the Pump Omni that she designed earlier this year for the sneaker brand.
