Woke up thinking about all of the ways self righteous white “activists” and “anarchists” have gone to protests either for punk points or just to fuck shit up, thinking - in some part of their brain - that violence and destruction are the solution that everyone else just doesn’t realize they need (or just hoping to get a picture of themselves getting maced). Thinking about how when a bunch of white college kids put up their bandanas and go after skinheads with bats, those skinheads are going to get pissed off and victimize more people of color and not go after white college kids. I know that there need to be more people out there protecting the water and fighting DAPL. I just really hope that if folks do go they don’t go in with their own wild punkass agendas and they truly go in ready to listen and be useful and follow the lead of the Indigenous people. Don’t assume you know what’s best. Sincerely, Grandpa Kimya

Please forgive this disjointed rant
Well. It happened again. I am so incredibly tired of white academically educated people being the voice of my community outside of my community, in professional situations. Their incredible experiences of privilege around whiteness, housing security, access to medical care, food, etc--not to say that POC don’t exp these things, too (do I get to identify as POC when I’m so light-skinned? that’s a whole ‘nother debate that’s complex), but race, color lines, institutional violence, they all do what they do in those contexts.
I went to [professional retreat] today, and I opted not to attend the “caring for trans*/gender expansive youth” portion, and instead attended a concurrent session on utilizing data to improve our practice in [community health nursing specialty setting], in part because it’s too uncomfortable to let someone else, usually cis, straight, AND white, likely with a BA from a private university (or two) and a master’s degree, explain what the needs of the youth of my community are. And let me tell you, I will be the first to admit that I am still sometimes stymied by the needs of the youth I care for, or delighted by the kind of self-knowledge they exhibit, the ways that they are assertive or have language for things that I didn’t have language for until my mid to late 20s--but damn, I think I have something to add, and I also think that these white folks need to SIT THE FUCK DOWN, and invite in other voices.
Then after that long day, a friendquaintance had posted to the local Queer Exchange group asking for referrals for their trans* trainings that they give--trainings that I know they charge upwards of $200 PER HOUR for. You know how much I got paid for the last talk I gave? $0! And this person has told me that their rates are trending upwards as they gain more experience. This person is trans, granted, but they are also transmasculine, and pay only lip service at best to the privilege that being a white transmasculine person from an upper-class background affords them in the world. Their utter and complete lack of humility is just astonishing to me.
After ranting about said friendquaintance to my partner, all I could do was satisfy myself by praising them for being One of the Good Ones (tm) in terms of race and equity and white allyship, through constant querying and self-education, and a font of humility that trends *away* from white guilt/apologism (although we all have our moments, don’t we?).
Anyhow. So that’s what’s up.

It is perfect!
#LGBTQ
I don’t think it’s proper. You can’t spread equality with a closed fist.
You sound mad fucking stupid man shut the hell up
I think this creates a separation in the LGTB community. Why not just have one flag for everyone?
There are literal hundreds of LGBT flag variations to upfift said Race/Religion/Country
Even ones for the specific areas in the LGBT community
How the fuck is this any different? Why is it everytime black people come up with something for themselves y'all have to come out with this show your entire asses with this “"segregation” shit.
Suck on my entire dick
Also, if you’re in this thread and have never made nor reblogged a post about the way POC, especially Black people are treated in the LGBTQ community then motherfuck you. We wouldn’t feel the need to remind you that we’re here, if you didn’t treat us like we weren’t.
More recently, a 2012 survey of 698 low-income patients in a New York City suburb reported that patients who rode the bus to the doctor’s office were twice as likely to miss appointments as patients who drove cars. And in 2013, a review published in the Journal of Community Health found that around 25 percent of lower-income patients have missed or rescheduled their appointments due to lack of transportation. The patients who reported issues with transportation also missed filling prescriptions more than twice as often as patients without that same problem. “These consequences may lead to poorer management of chronic illness and thus poorer health outcomes,” the study authors wrote.

I guess I’ll have to find a new friend to boner joke text :(
followup: we had our first date a week or so after this, and we are going strong six months later and wildly in love.
heyyo here’s a fun fact for y’all
trans women don’t experience male socialization before we come out
we experience closeted trans woman socialization which is an entirely different and extremely toxic monster
thank and have a terrible day if you disagree
hi if you’re safe to do so you should probably be reblogging this the idea that trans women are socialized as anything but women is one of the most potent arguments for stripping us of our humanity
BEEP BEEP BEEP THIS IS YOUR ALARM CLOCK TELLING YOU THIS IS VERY VERY IMPORTANT tagged for calling your nonsense out, you know who you are.
losing elders in nonwhite families carries a special weight because we’re often losing family history with them? and that’s not to say white people don’t also lose family history that way but, statistically, it’s going to be way easier for them to find records and dates and events than it would be for nonwhite ppl. most of us are separated geographically, or linguistically or any other number or combination of ways from our country/countries of origin.
already, accessing these things is hard, so all we really have is word of mouth and direct communication with elders. and once a generation starts to die out (and, to a larger extent, when it dies out completely), that chance is gone. mundane stories are lost alongside huge, life changing ones. where we are today is undoubtedly the sum of all those stories, so the more stories we lose, the harder it is to remember and appreciate all that got us here.
write things down kids. never know when things are going to be out of reach.
this. so hard.
Keep Lavish Diamond Reynolds, her child and the entire Castile-extended family in your prayers today. Lavish is said to have finally been released from police custody. Now she must begin to work to rebuild her and her child’s life, after witnessing and documenting Philando Castile’s execution by Minnesota police. We uplift their courage, and mourn for a loss no one should have to face. #farfromover

Jobby gender feels
Have reached the awkward point in my transition where I am trying harder than before to be OBVIOUSLY MASCULINE-IDENTIFIED to the cisfolks I meet, and so of course I overcompensate by putting on a ridiculous Barry White-deep voice whenever I meet a whole passel of them, and introducing myself with my full first name (bonus point: I usually don't end up getting called "Hobby" or "Jobby" by some clueless anglo).
Not sure how to get over this before work starts in a few weeks :/ :/ :/ but at least there's a safe place to pee at new workplace? ...but not where I'll be training in the weeks beforehand. Le sigh.
Have ferreals considered cutting my beloved hair, but god, I feel so much more in my gender than ever before as I am: deep voice, long fucking hair, "testosterone-shaped" metabolism, big fucking hoops in my ears, rolling deep in my all-black wardrobe nearly all of the time.
