In the mountains, there was once a castle, and it's only occupant, a lonely lord.

This lord, desperate for a companion, studied and worked, whenever he had spare time, to try and make a companion to stay with him on those long lonely nights alone in the castle.

He looked at gargoyles, and their methods of making children when they have no parts, and based his spell off of that. But he couldn't just take a piece off like they do, he needed a base.

So, with that in mind, he sculpted a small dragon out of candle wax, for he had many candles. He poured so much love and thought into every little detail, carving spines and curving horns, adding wicks in interesting places, even using different colours of wax.

After a long time, he was done. He reworked the spell, again and again, to be absolutely sure it worked, before he cast the spell. It was painful, yes, to have a piece of one's soul used in a spell, but he would bear the pain, if only to have a companion for the long nights.

But alas, the spell seemed to fail, the little dragon, lovingly dubbed Candle, sat as still as stone. The lord was heartbroken, so much effort, wasted.

He turned in for the night, dejected, and cried himself to sleep. But in the middle of the night, he awoke to the sound of a little voice calling.
