which I hold close to my skin,
to see how much I can stand,
before running to the water.”

"It's easy to talk yourself out of going into it," Ian agreed, because he had tried to do that himself as well when faced with the actual opportunity at an internship at Jiminy's office, and there were still moments when it felt surreal. He was about to graduate and would start seeing patients on his own rather than just leading group therapy and that felt overwhelming, so he could sympathize with Tony now faced with reaching that goal and not knowing what to do with it.
"You've been waiting a few decades to get to this point already," Ian pointed out, reaching to give his hand a squeeze, "and we'll figure out a way to make it work; it's not that far away and it just means you won't be in town during the day sometimes. You've spent a very long time not being able to leave this town so I don't think you should be talking yourself into ways to keep from doing it now even if that feels safer.
'It also means you won't get stuck in some of the chaos that happens around here and you know I personally like that idea," he chuckled.
But it was true that if Tony was in NTO during the day he wouldn't be in the midst of the strange town magic that might pop up during those daylight hours and Ian would have to worry a little bit less about him.
So maybe he was biased about that being a good thing.
"Sometimes you spend so long planning for something and wanting it that it doesn't feel real when you get there but it is real and that didn't happen by accident, you've worked really hard to get that far."
The comment about his parents though was something that made Ian smile; even though he had never had a chance to meet them it was hard to imagine they wouldn't have been proud.
"I think you're right, they would be very proud and very excited for you. And so is your family here."
Tony's fears felt less sharp with Ian's words, his husband's steadiness always soothing those edges for him. Ian was really going to excel in his career, Tony thought not for the first time. Ian may have been an awkward teen but Tony could see how much Ian had grown to understand the people around him as he'd grown out of his shell. Ian had the glorious ability to just keep the room calm in the face of chaos.
"Leaving town isn't the reason I like it," Tony chuckled softly. "If anything, I hate being that far away these days." It was an odd feeling, knowing just how desperate he'd been to run far far away from Swynlake before the curse had broken to now. He hadn't had anything worth staying for before, though, so could you blame him for digging his heels in now?
Tony started to pack up his things, not wanting to delay Ian from getting home at a reasonable time, even if he felt that itch to stay and study just a little longer. He'd probably study more in the morning before Ian woke up, some quiet in their own space might be even more effective than the library.
"I feel both like I've clawed my way here and like the world spun without me even knowing it to get to this moment." He tilted his head up, asking for a kiss. "But I'm grateful for it all, nonetheless. Maybe it'll feel real after graduation." Graduation felt like such an ugly word to Tony but this one would be different.
Tony's throat tightened as he pictured his parents' faces seeing him get his degree and he had to banish the image so he wouldn't become a mess in the center of the library. "Who do you think is going to shout the loudest at our ceremonies and why is it Barley?"

rydingtony: Happy Birthday to my beautiful husband, even when he doesn't want to be photographed or perceived. If you thought you could avoid my posting a photo of you today you were wrong.
Jess did snort at that. "That isn't hard, we don't serve much here." They had a few simple food items, but they were largely a drinking establishment on purpose. Fewer staff to maintain and look after, and fewer menus to keep track of. Fewer suppliers that needed her harassment.
Still, she understood what he was saying between the lines. Between working and looking after Penny, she didn't have a lot of time these days.
"Go ahead and let Jared know I'll take tonight off from seeing guests. Does that satisfy you?"
"Exactly. Easy to get sick of the same snacks all the time," Tony teased. He tilted his head as Jess offered to sit back and rest tonight, though, debating if her offer sufficed. "If you promise to eat the food I'm ordering.. yes." He knew that the people who came to the Court expected to see Jessica, that she was one of the biggest draws of the establishment, but that didn't mean they were owed that either. She deserved to get some time to perform without meeting the fans either.
"With all the studying you've been doing I can't imagine you won't pass,"'Ian pointed out, "but that anxiety is rough, yeah; you're so close to the end and it is hard to feel like you're prepared enough." Sometimes it still caught him off guard how Tony's bravado during the curse had been so brazen but once he went back to life in a normal context he did need that encouragement from time to time. Ian didn't mind offering it of course, and in a way it was nice to see that side of Tony that wasn't just depending on said bravado all the time.
Tony was more grounded anymore, with all the ups and downs that came with it, and Ian hoped the accomplishments felt larger because of the work he'd done for them. From the outside it was hard not to see those changes and that real confidence settling into place along the way.
He nodded, listening while Tony explained his plans and thinking, once again, how different the world felt anymore now that they were both living outside that bubble of repeating time.
"That's pretty soon?" He didn't mean it in a negative way at all; just that it was a big deal and right out of uni no less. He had every confidence in Tony, but it was equally understandable if he needed some time to catch his breath before jumping right into that idea.
"I know you can do it, you've worked this hard already," he added; there was no doubt Tony could get through the rest of this year and navigate his way through that internship.
"Who even knows anymore?" Tony sighed. University had not been like secondary school, not in the slightest. After decades of repeated lectures, Tony had been able to float through his secondary classes with little thought. University had been like fighting tooth and nail for every victory. He didn't think he'd ever used his brain so much in his life as when he'd entered higher education.
Tony frowned, running his fingers through his hair anxiously. The little motion was not so common these days, his nerves required less attention now that fraying was less frequent, but the telltale sign of Tony's dismay was clear on display now. Thinking about how close the internship was practically gave him hives.
"That's soon, yeah. Feels like it shouldn't be, I don't know if taking a break would help or hurt, but I think getting my foot in that door would be beneficial. It's.." Tony trailed off, thinking about what that future might look like. He had daydreamed of working in that industry for so long and now.. it was within reach.

Jess's lips twitched at the casual 'mum'. He rarely said that to her, mostly saving it for occasions when he was teasing her or when he was feeling especially sentimental. She had a feeling it was a bit more of the former tonight, trying to make sure that she was relaxed after all of that. It was sweet. One of many ways he'd looked after her over the years.
"You don't need to do that. I'm sure he's deep in his writing rhythm - either for school or for the next book. I can't be responsible for delaying the creative genius," she said. With that she sat up straighter, rolling her shoulders back and letting out a long sigh. "I'm all right Tony. Really."
Tony hummed quietly as Jess argued against Ian's involvement, knowing that his husband would do nearly anything if Jess needed it. Tony and Ian both adored her, differently of course but it was baffling to Tony that anyone who had the chance to really know her wouldn't. He knew that, many decades ago, he might have been among that baffling number but even knowing that felt like a harsh echo of a past he didn't wish to repeat ever again.
"I know you're alright," Tony insisted, though his tone gave away his discomfort over the whole ordeal. "I just think you ought to eat something that we don't serve for once. Nothing wrong with me taking care of you on top of you already being okay." He looked up at her, really studying her face. "And this job can be stressful."
"Don't say it like I'm not allowed around here," he laughed, knowing it wasn't really an accusation but it was funny.
Tony was surrounded by his own efforts, and Ian knew it had been a struggle at first for him to get back into the habit of not simply taking for granted but he already knew everything he needed to know for the school year. That had been one of those odd double edged swords to the curse that; Tony had never really worried about his grades and his classes because the material very rarely changed in secondary, to the point he had to put practically no effort into the school year. But it had also been tedious, he had complained more than a few times about just how tedious it was at times to sit through classes he had heard practically every variation of the lesson.
And then it had become difficult, he'd had to relearn how to study, how to apply all those little skills into new information stick. Ian had always enjoyed school, was obviously very meticulous about note-taking and studying and had tried to help as much as he could but it had taken a while for Tony to get the hang of it again.
He had, eventually and for the most part, and Ian was very proud of him for that; but sometimes he could still see the hints of frustration that led his husband to overdo the idea out of Tony's own refusal of failure. Not passing those classes would have been frustrating for anyone but If he had to guess he would have thought for Tony it would have been more than simply frustration because he took practically anything he felt he should already know and the curse made difficult for him to adjust to after it's break and held it against himself far too much.
"I think you lost track of time, love," Ian informed him; the only part of British slang he had picked up to much of a degree over the years had been terms of endearment and that had largely been because they made Tony smile. "I got off of work a little while ago and since you weren't home I thought I'd see if you were here."
It was less intrusive than a phone call, or a text that he knew would have gone unread if Tony was focused, but it was also an effort for the things Ian had worked on over the years; not letting himself jump to conclusions that anything unusual immediately meant Tony was in danger. His anxiety had a nasty habit of doing that and keeping it reframed in the idea that sometimes time just was lost along the way was a constant, but more easily pacified those days, battle.
"Barley might kick you out before long," he added with a softer laugh and rather than rush him, Ian sat down in one of the other chairs at the table. "Is this all for just one class?"
"I'm not saying you're not allowed here, you just don't usually meet me here!" Tony laughed, shaking his head. "It's a surprise, a nice one even, but still a surprise." He leaned in for a kiss, not wanting to avoid his husband's affections. The mysteries of the library insisted that time was an illusion entirely and it was clear that Ian was right. Tony glanced around the room, seeing how much sparser the patrons were.
Tony glanced at his pile, mulling over the question. "Well, mostly. I do have two that are for another but if I don't actually pass this exam I have a feeling that I will never actually get that damn degree." His tone was joking but there was a lot of truth behind the statement. Tony had been clawing his way through this major, he just needed to make it to the finish line.
"My professor knows the bloke who runs the smaller recording studio in NTO, the one I've already sent my portfolio to. Technically it'd be as an intern but it doesn't require being an actual student to qualify so Professor Stein said that it's likely I'd be able to be hired on for real by the end of the summer if I started in June?" His head spun just to think about it.
Tony reached over to one of the books at the top of the pile and gently tipped it over. He could hear Barley laugh from across the room and quickly hush his own noise. How Barley worked in a place meant for quiet still baffled Tony.
Jess looked up, giving Tony a small, tired smile. She should have known that he would have followed her on back instead of staying out front to serve. If she was a strict employer, she would have reminded him that was where he was supposed to be. Instead, she could only smile because that was just like him.
She wasn't hungry at all, but that didn't really matter. It wasn't the point and they both knew it.
"I think that sounds good. Maybe an order of their tea with it." That piping hot green tea with just a hint of bitterness would probably soothe her more than anything else.
"You got it, mum." Tony smiled, typing away on his phone. By this point he knew what Jess' go-to orders were for most businesses in town if not them all. The curse had some good points and it had allowed him to memorize the favorites of everyone he cared about. He didn't even have to pretend that he didn't know it anymore! That was a plus.
"If you hadn't suggested their tea I was going to have to text Ian to pick up some Hatter's for you," Tony joked. He knew Ian would have done it, though. Jess was beloved here. "Your son-in-law's gotta pull his weight here." He glanced around the room, the memories curling around them like a warm blanket. There was something about this space that always just felt.. safe.
The flicker of relief when Desoto appeared was undeniable. He normally stayed closer to the doors, keeping an eye on the people coming in and out or drifting closer to the bar. Those were the normal hot spots of trouble. But when he needed to, he came inside and dealt.
As the man was walked out towards the exit, he looked like he was dealing. That meant it was time for her to finish doing her own job.
The rest of the show progressed smoothly enough. It wasn't her best work, but the occasional cheers and whistles were enough to reassure her that the remaining audience were still enjoying themselves which was what mattered the most.
With a final smile and wave, Jess swirled off stage to the applause behind her. It was only once she made it back to the dressing room she finally felt that tension release. She collapsed on the couch back there to try and take a deep breath.
Tony waited until he was sure that Desoto had fully handled the interruption before disappearing back to the dressing room area. He wasn't a performer, at least not most of the time, but the dressing room area was one he was very familiar with. Back before his curse had broken, he'd spent a lot of idle time back there with Jess and the other performers.
When he entered, he saw Jess already sitting down. He walked over, settling himself down beside her. Tony didn't speak at first, letting her wind down from pushing herself out like that to keep the audience's attention.
"I'm gonna order us takeaway. Imperial City? You deserve it."
Tony didn't spend a lot of time in the Pride University library these days, his focus was always across town when he didn't need to be on campus to the little oasis that he and Ian had created years prior when they'd moved in together. He was shocked to realize it had been so long since that first day they'd turned the key for their current flat. Tony's old flat still sat on the ground floor, the familiar door greeting him every time he came into the building. A reminder of how far he'd come.
Today, however, Tony had hunkered down in a corner of the library few students tended to frequent. He had a pile of books surrounding him like the walls of a fortress. His professors had piled on the theory homework and, while he knew it would make a difference for his Production degree, it was maddening to try and memorize some of these things with names far too similar for this midterm.
He'd completely lost track of the time he'd been spending there, having settled in around ten that morning, but the darkness of the library hid the creeping twilight from him.
Who knows how long Tony could have stayed there if not for the feeling of a hand upon his shoulder, pulling his mind from the pages splayed out in front of him (no less that three open textbooks and two open notebooks he'd been scribbling in like his life depended on it). He turned, wondering who it was that dared touch him and interrupt his reverie, but was pleasantly surprised to find his husband standing there.
"Ian? What are you doing on campus?" Ian was hardly ever there, at least not during the hours Tony spent on campus, given the hours of his internship with Jiminy. "Alright?"

Look, call me basic, but I am a sucker for a good “omg they were soulmates” romance. I choose to blame Soul Eater and Pacific Rim being Formative Pieces of Media to a young Silv. I truly have so much love for these boys and the way they work together is brilliant. The hardest part to me about the soulmate trope is actually making them believable! You can tell me all day long that they’re destined to be together and made for each other and blah blah blah, but if you don’t show me why, I won’t believe it.
I believe it with Tian.
They’ve been through so much together -- through curses and Swynlake dreams and amnesia -- but they always come out on the other side together, and they always come out stronger. I’ll gladly admit I teared up a bit when they eloped, and I can’t wait to see where they go from here!
Jess could see a few people glancing around. A few whispers at the show and she felt that familiar sink. She'd learned young that it was never enough to be good. It was what people remembered. For tonight, there was a chance that this is what people would remember.
Unless she made it hers. This was her show. This was her club. No one could take that from her now.
Instead of moving away, she moved closer. She smiled at the audience. She smiled at the man attempting to crawl up the stage, kneeling down, she seemed to smile right at him - although at the last moment her glance flicked over and met Tony's.
In time with the song, she gave the man a shove that looked playful to the audience but it carried enough force to rock him backwards.
In the crowd, she could hear a laugh and a wolf whistle.
If there was one thing Tony could count on at the Court of Miracles, it was that Jess was ultimately always in control. Whether that was commanding attention from the crowd or finding ways to make the business run as though automatic and instinctive, Jessica Rabbit ruled this place with a kind smile and a subtle magic flare.
He hesitated as Jess got close to the bloke, confused what her plan was, until she caught his gaze. Ah, add him to the performance. Got it.
Tony caught the man as he tumbled down, hearing him mumble drunkenly about her being his ideal woman. "Sorry, mate, Jess is taken and I don't think you wanna fight her partner. An elf general seems a little outside your weight class, hm?"
Desoto appeared then, grabbing the guy out of Tony's arms. Oh thank god, Tony did not want to drag him outside.
"At the creepy hotel thing?" Hiro was not the best when it came to things that went on on the social spectrum around town, he knew of the place, he had probably heard it mentioned before that vampires owned it, but it also probably just filed off into their recesses of his very busy brain as a fact to be stored but not really addressed much. Tony did have a point though; that could have been the easiest outlet to address his questions. That also required he go talk to people, which was less of a fun prospect but a necessity.
"Yeah that's what I want," he countered, "in this town that's not going to get the attention of any of the vampires, just all the weirdos. And there are plenty of those around here. Besides, Riley has tried to talk me into joining on there again forever and what am I supposed to do when someone actually talks to me?"
It still felt like some surreal concept, that was how he had met Pip and even after all that time he still thought about him, still missed him, and it still felt like a big what if even though he knew it wasn't. Pip had very likely just forgotten he even existed in his big, hectic life. He was never going to know how his presence had left a mark that Hiro still wasn't able to fully let go of.
He was almost afraid of history repeating itself somehow.
"Worrying about me doesn't mean she's not better off here though; if something happened and I had to leave again I wouldn't be leaving with anyone. I already messed enough people's lives up that way once." He couldn't do that again, it wasn't fair to do that again; at some point he had to stop being the problem even if the people around him were willing to put up with it.
The food had no appeal to him, and that wasn't Tony's fault at all, and just always felt like eating anything was just a rock in his stomach anymore. Like his stomach didn't know what to do with the idea, the same way that his brain didn't know what to do with the idea of sleep and he ended up staying up most of the night more often than not those days.
He relented, if only because it didn't seem like he was getting away from it, and finally took a bite.
"I think it's technically a Bed & Breakfast," Tony shrugged, "but yeah, that. I know they've been pretty openly run by vampires. I don't see a reason not to at least give it a shot if you're serious. They've got the added benefit of being a local source so you can go back if you forget to ask anything." Tony didn't know what people who wanted that life typically did but he figured this advice couldn't hurt anything.
Ian might argue otherwise once he was home but Tony would cross that bridge once the fire was already lit behind him.
"Oh c'mon, it doesn't have to be serious. Tinder can be good even for just.. making friends. Finding out about parties. I know those don't totally appeal to you but it's better than being a shadow in the night at all times of day." Teasing, gentle ribbing, that was how Tony showed his affection. Especially with Hiro. It had always been that way. He wasn't going to start now. But see how he didn't comment on the Riley of it all? He was listening!
Tony waited til Hiro took at least one bite before tucking into his own meal. He knew Hiro didn't want to eat, that he just didn't seem to be in the right mindset for it, but Tony worried about the kid and so he wanted to be sure he got at least a few bites down.
"I'm sure Riley would go with you if you asked," he murmured. "Probably Luca too, though they do love uni. Cass could stay here, maybe, or maybe she'd want to be with you wherever you are because she wants to be with her family. You're not the version of Batman that works alone, you're the actual Batman with a whole slew of family at your side. You're gonna have to wrap that big brain around that someday."
It had been a mixed start to the New Year. Judy got cheated on...sort of, she'd kissed a gorgeous man she didn't know that well, and she'd helped busy a major criminal operation with the sheriff and the London Police Department. So things were...okay?
Right. Judy was telling herself things were okay. She had a doctor check out the graze on her arm, she was pushing John out of her mind and she was totally...definitely...very okay.
Though there was a moment where she rounded a corner on her patrol and thought she caught a glimpse of him and found her heart starting to pick up speed and herself ducking down a side street, not looking in time and colliding right into another solid person.
"Oh gosh I'm so sorry! Wait hold on... let me help you. That was bad on my part... just was trying to.... well anyway let me help you."
New Years had started by a horrible clown attack that led to Tony & Hiro breaking into a car for safety. Really, Tony wasn't sure what he could expect anymore. He was usually at least a little on edge at any given event in town because things could always go awry. He knew that there was nothing that could be done about that, Swynlake was the town it was, but it could be exhausting.
Now that classes were starting back up, Tony was pretty sure that this semester (his last one: scary) was going to go by quicker than he'd like. His mind was on syllabuses and course loads when he felt someone ram right into him. Tony was knocked off balance, tumbling to the pavement with a grunt.
He turned, facing the culprit and finding the woman to be in a Swynlake Police Department uniform. Oh. Joys.
"S'alright," he mumbled, getting back up carefully. "Nothing broken. Just.. y'know.. my pride a little." Bad joke, yes, but he couldn't help but make it. "You alright, Officer?"
"I don't think vampires are very enthusiastic about you doing research about them," Hiro pointed out; pretty much a fairly secretive bunch. "I'm going to chance a guess here and say they don't like that because people tend to hate them regardless of what they do or don't do."
He was not the type of person who rated very high on the morality scale sometimes, he did, after all, enjoy using his computer skills to reroute money from people who were far too rich to need that much of it to various other things, not excluding his own whims, and he did still miss the excitement of bot fights.
Really all the strange alterations that had come with his recovery from the accident had only facilitated his ability to do the things that he naturally did so much faster; his brain was fast before but since the accident it was like it was processing on an entirely different level. While he had a pretty strict outlook on not wanting to harm people there were a lot of other things that felt much more like a gray area.
"I mean if you know a vampire that's buying with me asking them questions feel free to let me know, otherwise I'm going to have a really hard time finding one." Hiro speculated, then considered it. "That's probably not the sort of thing that you advertise on Tinder, right?"
I didn't think it was, but maybe it would work.
"Yeah I don't think even Aunt Cass is going to be on board with that idea, which is why it's something I wouldn't be able to tell her about until after it happened." Which didn't feel great, but it was probably true. "Besides; she's happy here. That's the thing, isn't it? She's happy here; part of the reason for coming out here was to make sure that she was happy and she was safe, and I know those things are true now. So if I'm not in town she is still happy, she just doesn't have to worry about me as much."
It made sense, but he wished it didn't make sense. He wished he could go back to that point where the accident had never happened, or he hadn't taken that stupid job because his ego had gotten in the way. Because he was the one that ruined everything, and then he ruined it all again because Aunt Cass wouldn't let him just disappear when that probably would have been the best thing for her.
But he couldn't change those things, and he needed her a lot more than she needed him.
"Yeah, you really think I'm hungry after this conversation?"
"Not all vampires, y'know. Some of them are forthcoming like the Hauntleys. Maybe you could ask one of them about vampire stuff. I know they are all about being open." Tony shrugged. He had never taken the time to talk to the Hauntley family, it wasn't something he took a particular interest in, but if Hiro was into the idea that was the only place Tony could think to start. The squirt suddenly seemed somewhat serious about it. It felt less like a joke now.
Tony had never wanted that, the idea of immortality felt like a chain being wrapped around his throat. He'd spent decades being stuck in the same body, in the same place, and unable to escape. At least a vampire would be able to leave town without feeling like he was dying, Tony supposed, but Tony still didn't think he could withstand that frozen feeling ever again.
Tony snorted at the Tinder comment, though, reaching over to mess up Hiro's hair. "I dare you to try it. Download Tinder and just make your bio 'Hopeful Future Vampire - Serious Inquiries Only' and see what happens." He could only imagine what sort of chaos that would bring Hiro.
"Your Aunt Cass will love you and support you however you choose to be but she would be worried about you, especially if you left town. She worries about you with you having moved across town let alone to another part of the globe. She's happy here, yes, but you also make her happy. You're family, nothing can replace that." Tony didn't want Hiro to go off thinking that nothing he did would have an impact on those around him. "Hell, I'd be worried about you. Who knows what sort of madness the tiny genius could find himself in."
Tony thought about letting the topic of food drop but instead he flicked Hiro in the forehead gently. "Don't matter. A few thank you bites at least."

Jess let herself sink into the set. Nights like this, she always sang one of her mother's song - just that little bit of tribute that kept her alive and kept her close inside a place named after miracles. The rest of the set was filled with some of her other favorites to flesh it out, like Blondie, Pat Benatar, Tina Turner, and Linda Ronstadt.
Wearing a slightly modern variant of one of Cyndi Lauper's classic looks, she knew the picture she painted. It was sexy. It was powerful. It was Rock and Roll.
Clearly, someone else had the same thought and didn't think listening was enough.
For a moment, Jess stumbled in the words as she watched the man begin to run closer when Tony came out of nowhere. Deliberately, she let her magic roll out over the rest of the audience to try and distract them from the struggle even as she was glancing around for Desoto to help Tony.
Tony grabbed hold of the bloke as he tried to climb up the edge of the stage, both hands clamped onto the stranger's jacket like a vice. "No need for a guest performer," Tony growled while he yanked him back. It was a pain in the ass that Bram wasn't working tonight, the younger security guard was always down for a fight.
Bram would have to miss out on the fun.
"Wuh-huh?" The guy was clearly so coherent when he glanced over his shoulder at Tony but Jess' appeal was simply too much for him to be concerned with Tony's struggles.
Tony looked up at Jess, hoping she wasn't too thrown off by the actions, but he could see her professionalism was still winning. "Why don't we let the pretty lady finish her song and I can see about getting you an autograph after, mate? C'mon.."

Write at least one resolution, or “goal,” that you have as an RPer for your character(s).
Tony: I keep mentioning this (and so has Z) but I want to delve into writing out and at least sowing the seeds for the next Tian plot! This one is centered around Tony's history and I have started coming up with some ideas but I need to make it concrete and start figuring out who else I can draw in!
Martin: Focusing in on the Coven of Owls plot! Figuring out how to tell his friends he's a Mundus! Growing the family?? 👀
Riley: Put down those roots, baby! They're not in uni so they need to build up those connections in town on their own.
Scott: I really want to focus in on the pack and his relationship to the wolf in general. He's made leaps and bounds regarding his aversion to responsibility but I need to figure out the wolfy bits!
Barley: Have him help others more! Be the assisting character in Situations! I think that I want to see what sort of plot calls I can throw him at!
Dot: Really dive into the inadequacies she feels both in and out of the Hollow! Uni stuff! I'm excited to really work on her independence.
Write at least one resolution IN CHARACTER for your characters. What do THEY want to accomplish or change in the New Year?
Tony: Finish uni which means finding a job which means start applying for jobs which means??????? Oh god, that means I have to figure out what I can even do from Swynlake? Do I have to work in NTO?! Fuck!
Martin: Actually confront our father. We have a plan, we have the support, but it's... terrifying to think about what comes after.
Riley: Be a better friend. Maybe join some clubs?
Scott: Work on my relationship with Collette. Maybe call home if it goes well.
Barley: Graduate. Maybe teach? Maybe look for the Brazen Head? Find True Love! Too many things really.
Dot: Help Atta with adjusting to town... Even if I'm still adjusting myself.
List one or more characters you have never interacted with that you would like to do so.
I feel like I would have a ton of fun with any/all of the Hauntley Inn Family but I just haven't had a lot of reasons to throw my kids at them! That could be really fun because all of them are just so interesting!
Talk a bit about your plotting style – what plots are you most drawn to? Do you prefer to come with a fully-formed idea and plot off that, or throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks?
I feel like I'm rarely the person coming at you with a fully-realized Big Plot. I am much more likely to come to you with vibes and suggestions that I think could be fun for us to explore. I don't mind when other people come to me with the Big Plot fleshed out but I don't do well with that myself. I also do like headcanoning things that fill in the gaps.
Talk a bit about character relationships – what relationships are you most drawn to? How do you prefer to approach shipping (if at all!)? What, specifically, are you looking for right now for your character relationships?
I am a big big big Found Family person. And I love a Friends-to-Lovers ship the most, though I can be persuaded into just about anything that the chemistry supports. I have been completely blindsided by ships (Mighty) while also working up the chemistry and being pleasantly surprised when romance was the end result (Tian).
When it comes to what I'm searching for in the future, I really want to see Riley fail at relationships because they still don't know themself that well. And Barley is such a Hopeless Romantic that he's prone to stumbling into heartbreak and trouble in the hopes that blind faith will help him. Dot is still a mystery but I think something like a Whirlwind Romance could really fit her.
And then, of course, Scott is an aromantic bisexual slut. He's happy with his friendships but he's also always down to clown without feelings attached.
What is one RP Habit you want to break this year? This could be anything, from losing threads to over-editing replies or perhaps there’s something new you want to write that you’ve never written before! How might you tackle breaking that habit?
I need to work on my ability to keep track of my threads. I feel like with how broken all of my activity feeds get (especially Tony's) I tend to lose things. I really do apologize if I suddenly seem like I'm dropping something! 90% of the time it just gets lost entirely and I will either assume the ball is still in your court or blank on it when my life gets hectic.
I will never be offended by a reminder or nudge! Please feel free to reach out!
What tends to make you lose momentum in a thread, and what helps you get it back?
When a thread that had no specific ending starts going in conversation circles I start to get discouraged. I try to start adding in things that are a little unexpected to spice it up if we're trying to keep the ball rolling. Also a conversation about their relationship/future of the plot helps!
What makes you feel most excited to write a reply?
Honestly I love writing replies that are either contemplative or really pushing a plot forward. I adore the introspective parts of a thread. My kids have a lot of thoughts and diving into them is fun, especially if it mirrors or counters the introspective parts of my partners' replies. We all write such deep characters, I love seeing what makes them tick!
