Scientists taught 23 riding horses of various breeds to look at a display board with three icons, representing wearing or not wearing a blanket. Horses could choose between a āno changeā symbol or symbols for āblanket onā or āblanket off.ā Previously, their owners made this decision for them. Horses are adept at learning and following signals people give them, and it took these equines an average of 10 days to learn to approach and touch the board and to understand the meaning of the symbols. All 23 horses learned the entire task within 14 days. They were then tested in various weather conditions to see whether they could use the board to tell their trainers about their blanket preferences. The scientists report online in Applied Animal Behaviour Science that the horses did not touch the symbols randomly, but made their choices based on the weather. If it was wet, cold, and windy, they touched the āblanket onā icon; horses that were already wearing a blanket nosed the āno changeā image. But when the weather was sunny, the animals touched the āblanket offā symbol; those that werenāt blanketed pressed the āno changeā icon. The studyās strong results show that the horses understood the consequences of their choices, say the scientists, who hope that other researchers will use their method to ask horses more questions.

I Photograph Four-Legged Models In Breathtaking Landscapes
Iām Alicja ZmysÅowska, a 23-year old dog photographer from Poland. Dog photography combines my all greatest passions and creates a kind of unique lifestyle.
In my new project āCraving Miraclesā, I combined the stunning beauty of nature and personalities of adventurous dogs. I was mostly inspired by the beauty of the northern landscapes of Norway, Iceland, and Alaska. I wanted to create something new, unique, and different. Something that would bring my dog photography to another level. My biggest goal is to never be repetitive and have my own ideas.
For this project, I wanted more than just to travel through wonderful landscapes with a dog and a camera ā I wanted to create a connection, an emotional bond between the dog and a selected place. I wanted to make people not only appreciate a pretty view and a dog in it but to stop for a while, think about the photo, an emotion it creates, a story it tells. For me, itās about creating emotions. To achieve that, I have to travel to such places, spent time with nature and my dog models, be inspired. Thatās why I spend so many weeks planning, traveling, scouting for right places and, finally, taking photos. My goal is to create art with a core of truthful photography inspired by real experiences, real locales. An art that tells stories and has a piece of my soul in it.
Each photo shoot was a different adventure that couldnāt be possible without the heroes of the project ā the dogs and their infinitely dedicated owners who were ready to drive for many hours in a car, or even fly a plane, help position a dog in a water breeze from a waterfall, walk through cold, glacially fed rivers or stand in a pouring rain with their four-legged models ā just to achieve the perfect shot.
Teach your kids to respect animals!
Teach your kids to leave animals alone if they walk away!
Teach your kids to put down an animal if they are struggling to escape!
Itās not that hard to teach kids that animals are living things and not toys!
Please donāt take your pets for granted. Even if youāre frustrated that your dog has been barking all day or your bird has been screaming for attention, remember you are all they have in this world. Give your fish that extra water change. Give your dog or cat that tummy rub theyāve been begging for. Chop up some fresh fruit as a treat for your rodents or reptiles. Just spend some time with them. Be compassionate to your animals. They are living creatures that are alive simply because you wish them to be. They may only be a small part in your life, but to them, you are their everything.

october-december is the best time of the year and you canāt tell me otherwise.
āA horse is the projection of peoplesā dreams about themselves - strong, powerful, beautiful - and it has the capability of giving us escape from our mundane existence.ā
another friend wanted aĀ āgoodbyeā session with her 30yo mare before she was put to sleep the next morning, and for some reason this picture just hit me right in the heart. it feels like going home.

To see a rider of such a high level have such a compassionate mentality towards horse husbandry and training is awesome. I love this, the sport needs more top level riders like this.
