Check your fans! If you are like me, you have some kind of fan going in your barn 24/7 right now to suck cool air in, push hot air out, and to make it harder for flies to land. Last year I bought a fan from TSC that was advertised as a barn fan. After a post from my vet about barn fires, I checked my fans again, and round the barrel fan I have been using is open motor. Thankfully my other fans are all closed motor. These barrel fans are in just about every barn I have been to, and I wonder how many people, like me, assumed that because it had barn in the name it was safe to use in the barn.
Glad you caught this! In an ideal world the pons would be able to have running air all the time but even with a closed motor, running fans 24/7 can be a fire risk regardless of model. Any electronic with moving parts, that can produce heat while running, or high amounts of active current kind of does best when you can check on it regularly. When I worked in barns the fans were only on as long as there was someone manning the barn, so usually running most of the day. If workers were gone for the day or asleep, the fans were off. Even a fan in a computer can have it's parts wear down, become faulty, and start to smoke/potentially start a fire. I had a computer nearly go up like that once while I was taking a nap - that was on me. I should not have left the PC running unattended. Computer fires happen. Hell, I've even had lightbulbs that should have been safe start to smoke after just two hours being left on accidentally. Could have started a fire. Electronics with moving parts, that can get hot, or that have a higher use of power unfortunately do pose fire risks inherently, and it's about being able to monitor what you have on while it's on.
Thought I might post these here as well
Only the subtlest metaphors on this Tumblr.
This works as a metaphor for children but also it works perfectly well when played totally straight because horse people are actually like this
it literally took me three solid readings through this to realize that it wasn’t necessarily about horse people, because they are exactly like this
I must be the anti horse person (and lets face it anti child person) cause I have three horses and every time someone mentions maybe getting one Im immediately all: No. Dont do it. Save yourself. Its too late for me, but you can still live….
Do you agree with the statement "People who own horses only to ride shouldn't own horses"
Yes
No
Nuance
I mostly hear statements like this when the topic of privileged equestrians comes up. The kind of people who board at a stable where turnout, feeding, mucking, etc is all taken care of, all of the owner does is come to the stable, tack up, ride, and then return the horse to the stall.
Or the kind that neglects things like proper feeding, turnout, etc because they only own a horse because they want to ride them.
Another example is people who sell competition horses the second they retire or become injured and can no longer compete at the level they used to.
I know Eohippus means Dawn Horse in Greek, but coincidentally, Eoh also means Horse in Old English (originally, before it was replaced by Hors) so Eohippus could also means Horse Horse.

you have this superpower! BUT you have this side-effect
is it worth it?
yes!!
the side effect is bad but ITS WORTH IT
meh it's okay
the side effect makes it unusable/not worth it
Results/option I didn't think of
Horse girls are the backbone of this world
I'm so so so angry. in Horsey Game, I found a wild legless horse, cloned it repeatedly, and mass-sold the clones to all my rival ranches to pollute their gene pools. and when my plan finally reached fruition.....when at last, I came into a race where every opponent had no legs.......my stupid fucking horse fell over.
