In both Roku’s Fire Temple and the Sun Warrior Temple, there’s a consistent visual motif of a flame pattern in the shape of a lotus petal. This motif is known as Kra-Chang Bai-Thet (กระจังใบเทศ) and is very common in Thai art. As I mentioned in an earlier post, lotuses are associated with enlightenment so it’s understandable why this motif features prominently in the Fire Nation temples.
