Trevor Brown (UK, London, 1959, based in Japan)
Art for Once Upon the Cross, 1995 unauthorised combo drawing + color by eucanthos
SEP 08/08 — Just doing (done?) an interview for the rock/metal magazine Revolver in America, for the column Visions of Disorder, about the creation of classic album covers. My “infamous” Deicide cover: Once Upon the Cross, [was] selected after a readers’ vote; it [has] also appeared titled “Graphic Violence: The Most Demented, Depraved, and Demonic Album Covers of All Time!”...
...it’s nice to have something different to talk about instead of the usual “Why did you move to Japan?” type interviews. It’ll appear in the issue due out the first week of November [2008] if anyone [is] at all interested. As I said in the interview, nowadays it feels like another Trevor Brown did it. How (un)fortunate [that] I never got inundated with CD Art requests from other death metal bands following that cover—not one—ha ha!. [See Article]

Girl who prays to god every night to take her homosexual desires away waking in the middle of the night as an angel in the image of a beautiful woman descends upon her bedroom. She's elated, but her gut twists as she feels a pang of sinful desire for the angel.
She tries to bury those feelings as the angel approaches, but the closer it gets the harder that becomes. She wants to pluck out her sinful eyes but she can't even bring herself to close them. The angel leans down over her, she hopes that it's here to save her from her desires, to answer her prayers; but she's growing more and more certain that it's here to punish her, to cast judgement.
The angel does neither. It leans down further still and speaks, in a voice that is at once many voices and one: "Be Not Afraid." The girl's trembling ceases, her breathing slows, and as the angel leans down and kisses her she allows herself to melt into it's touch.
