laughter was light and light was laughter

There’s so many factors that play into what makes it a truly beautiful form of art. The costumes are so beautiful, each detail fitting so perfectly into each dance, from the loose, unkept feathers in the tail of the ugly duckling, to the purposeful gentle shimmer across the pink tutu of aurora.

The shows themselves are so captivating, telling a story and portraying every emotion so perfectly without the dancer ever speaking a word. The ability to express love, joy, heartache, sorrow and longing with only their movements and have it translate so perfectly, alongside the rise and fall of the music, it just all so captivating. Some of my favourites i’ve ever seen were Swan lake, giselle and coppelia.

I use to do ballet myself, only a local novice class, between the ages of 4-9, and I ended up quitting due to a medical condition, but even at a beginners level, it was so physically taxing. I can’t even imagine the sheer amount of control and discipline it takes to do it professionally. I follow a lot of dancers online, and their day-to-day schedules are insane. The training is so gruelling and severe, truly pushing the body beyond itself. It’s like… peak human ability. And yet they’re able to craft themselves into walking pieces of art. Turning broken toes and bloody feet, exhaustion and injured joints into something so delicate and pretty and moving. it’s incredible.

And aside from ballet itself, one of the main reasons I love it, is because it was always something my mother and I could bond over when I was a kid. We didn’t go often, but when the local ballet theatre would have a cheap show on, she would book us tickets. It was something for the two of us to share. A private thing that nobody could encroach on or ruin for us.

The healing is the thing I’m worried abt because my eyebrow piercing has healed kinda funny and I think I might need to remove it and re pierce it. I’ve gotta check I have the right anatomy for it bc I have weirdly small and cartilage-less ears??
