Foolin' and Fitzin' Around

I actually think Fitz was a pretty good father to Hap (given the circumstances). He's emotionally honest and empathetic with Hap, genuinely listens to him and respects his independence even when Fitz disagrees with his decisions. He laments depriving Hap of necessary life skills despite having given him a wealth of practical knowledge, some of which is quite uncommon (Hap can read, write, mix inks, cultivate herbs and produce, create poultices, etc.)

Was talking about Realm of the Elderlings with my friend who’s only read Liveship. She expressed confusion because everyone says RotE is relentlessly soul crushing and Liveship didn’t seem like that. Personally, I think RoteE has plenty of sad things in it, but they are surrounded by the warm, good, and interesting aspects of humanity. Yes, Fitz has a pretty rough life, but parts are funny and sweet and exciting.
