clouds above start become more gray as they sail ahead, lightening sounding, and the waves picking up. the celebration on deck stops and sailors start to move about tying down ropes and closing the sails. eric moves a long with them, following orders from the captain. the storm grows worse as quickly as it started. water starts to flow onto the deck and it becomes harder to stand, but eric moves towards the helm to help the captain as he falls. the prince quickly jumps into action and grabs a hold, muscles tensing as he tries to steer. a bolt of lightening flashes and hits one of the sails. sparks of fire start small, but then it spreads. β we need to abandon ship! β everyone begins to pile into a lifeboat, which is then lowered, but before they begin to row, eric looks around and notices that they are missing a dog. there's a howl on the ship that he immediately responds to. β max, i'm coming! β eric leaps into the water and climbs back aboard, avoiding flames, he grabs a hold of max. on the way back he becomes stuck in a broken floorboard, so he has to throw max over the side. he yanks and pulls at his foot. the flames growing closer until he's able to jump free into the water.
