It's wild blueberry season in Sweden and I've been picking and eating my fill everyday from the forest behind my house! The entire forest floor is covered in wild blueberry bushes and the tangy taste is so cosmic, I had to paint them✨ Photos of the berries I picked!

Litha is June 21st this year, and if you've been in witchcraft spaces for any length of time you already know what most of the content around it looks like. Flower crowns, bonfires, invocations, golden aesthetic photos. That content exists because people genuinely enjoy it, and there's nothing wrong with any of it.

But the older folk practice around midsummer is a lot more practical than the aesthetic version suggests, and it's worth talking about, especially for witches whose lives don't always leave room for elaborate seasonal setups.

The summer solstice is the astronomical peak of solar energy and also the turning point. After June 21st the days get shorter, which makes midsummer less of a pure celebration and more of a useful moment to assess where you actually are before the year starts tipping toward the dark. In folk tradition across the British Isles and broader European practice, midsummer was associated with protective workings, herb harvesting, threshold maintenance, and tending what you'd already planted, literally and figuratively.

That's the angle this post takes. Five practical ways to work with Litha that don't require good weather, a full ritual setup, or any particular level of physical ability. Getting outside if you can, or bringing the outside in if you can't. Cooking with something actually in season. Learning the skill or practice you've been putting off. Tending something living. Doing an honest mid-year audit of your practice.

None of it is dramatic. All of it is useful. And any one of those things, done with intention on or around the solstice, is a legitimate way to mark the day.

If you can't do any of it right now, reading about the season and understanding what it's asking is still a form of practice. Awareness counts. Learning counts. You don't have to perform the sabbat to honor it.
