Invisible Bride -- the easter egg hidden in plain sight. Was this the concept of the MV? Did she intentionally want to make the bride invisible on her wedding day, or was the invisible bride after all the one she wanted to shine in a wedding that’s black and white and red all over? Some wedding traditions and symbolisms I noticed while watching IBYTAM, TS you sly genius.

Thou must not upstage the bride, by wearing white...or red

There is an unwritten law in weddings, where you cannot wear white. Unless you are the bride, of course. This day belongs to her. Everyone else should blend in, leaving her to shine unhindered. In Taylor Swift’s I Bet You Think About Me MV, the bride almost faded into the background with everyone+everything almost white and just several seconds of screen time to uhm, the invisible bride. The only thing that stands out is the groom and well, Taylor who seems to be successfully catching his attention. Red after all is one of the most commanding colours you will ever come across. Researchers and psychologists have proven that red grabs our attention. It is a colour that gets you noticed. It’s always possible that she just wore red because it is a song after all from her album RED, but come on. This is TS we’re talking about. Koincidence? I don’t think so.  Does she want the bride to disappear? At this point in the MV, possibly. Does she want him to think about her? Definitely, if the song title wasn’t obvious enough.

The wedding cake symbolizes good fortune and fertility. It also brings good luck to everyone who eats it. The bride traditionally cuts the first slice of cake to provide good fortune in the marriage. A gorgeous wedding cake is often the centrepiece of a wedding and it typically sits in a place of honor at the reception.  The white of the cake was simply a representation of the bride as the main focal point of the wedding. White is, of course, the color of purity, and traditionally this white cake symbolized virginity and was referred to as the “bride’s cake.” 

At this point, I think it’s quite easy to think that she’s playing the part brilliantly of a petty childish ex trying to upstage the bride and ruin her special day by not only making her invisible but destroying the symbolic cake faster than the wind, passionate as sin in a burning red dress that looks a lot like what a certain supermodel giraffe wore to the MET whose two highly publicized weddings to a man (who has a fine pedigree coming from upper crust circles who probably has a million dollar couch) that blondie refused to attend like someone who used to eat / ate / eats the bride’s cake (you see what I did there). Zoom forward and you see blondie wearing rubber shoes with her wedding gown, in a world where only so many koincidences can happen, as if the supermodel giraffe did not also wear one during her wedding shoot, BUT I DIGRESS. 

IF SHE’S SO PISSED AT THE BRIDE AND WANTS TO RUIN HER DAY WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD SHE 1) TOPPLE JUST THE GROOM (esp in a crazy world where women normally hate on the other woman despite the man doing them wrong?)

2) THE FIRST ONE TO NOTICE THE BRIDE WHO HAS BLENDED INTO THE BACKGROUND ON HER SPECIAL DAY AND GIVE THE BRIDE A GIFT EXACTLY WHEN THESE LINES ARE SUNG AS IF LOVING HER WAS RED

3. GIVE HER AN OLD SCARF THAT REMINDS YOU OF INNOCENCE AND SMELLS LIKE HER THAT YOU CAN’T GET RID OFF BECAUSE YOU REMEMBER IT ALL TOO WELL TIED IN A FREAKING SCARF KNOT WTF 

When people get married, we say that they are tying the knot. Knots themselves, which symbolize unbreakable pledges in the folklore of many cultures, were also used in many marriage rituals. The lover’s knot or love knot has a long history of being a symbol of love. It represents the unbreakable bond and eternal connection between two lovers

Speaking of unbreakable pledges of love....

Wedding rings symbolise eternal love and commitment within a relationship. This emblem of love is exchanged between two people on their wedding day and worn to show the world they are married. During the wedding service, the couple will say their vows to each other while exchanging rings.

1) Notice that the invisible bride wears the ring on her left ring finger same with the groom seen in a later shot, but notice in this scene where blondie is wearing a tux like THE MAN she is, wears her ring in the right ring finger. Blondie has been wearing rings all throughout many frames in many different fingers, it’s hard to digest that she didn’t do this for a reason...coupled with the sign on the wedding cake that could have been totally left out if it weren’t meant for a reason

Traditionally, the ring finger on the left hand has always been the location for a wedding band. However, just as the ring finger on the left hand signifies love, fidelity and monogamy, the ring finger on the right hand has also developed a code of its own. As the new millennium approached, diamond rings began to suddenly shift to the right hand – and the multiple meanings behind this shift are fascinating. Amongst some others, it symbolizes Gay and Lesbian Marriage. Instead of wearing wedding bands on their left hands, gay and lesbian couples often choose to wear rings on their right hands instead. Within gay and lesbian communities, the right-handed ring is an instantly recognizable marker of a monogamous relationship, and even marriage within the states that have legalized it.  

2) Speaking of connections, knots, strings and an invisible bride --- Did anyone come across an award winning poetry book called Invisible Bride by Tony Tost? For some reason, the book cover seems so similar to a video with something invisible of a blonde singer-songwriter known for her poetic song-writing and who has written poems of her own. Koincidence? OH MY GOD, YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME
