These are all of my thoughts as I watched Apple TVās See this week. I was kind of tweeting as I went on Twitter. So this is just all those, copy and pasted together.
So I decided to start watching See on Apple TV this morning.
Only like half way through. And itās, uh, interesting.
First of all, I always find it ironic when stories about blind people make you read to get some or all of the details.
I know that most of the cast and crew were blind, which is amazing. But still, first part of the show, read about how we got here. Lol
No narration unless you turn on audio description.
Anyone else uncomfortable about Queen Kaneās praying being a sex thing?

Donāt think thatās the exact quote, because I am tweeting about these episodes after I watched them instead of during, but nevertheless, A+ line.
Alright, gotta be honest, the throwing the gravel on the floor thing, so that he could now hear their footsteps, brilliant.
So I am watching this show on my iPad. And I couldnāt remember / really understand the names of the characters and stuff when they said them, so I turned on subtitles. So now here I am, a visually impaired person, watching a show about the blind, with subtitles on. Lol
Quick shoutout to Apple though, for all of the subtitle and audio description options they have for so many different languages. But also have to be honest, only have AppleTV right now because I got a free trial.
So I forgot about what the show said at the beginning, explaining about how we got to where we are, until I was telling a friend about the show.
I know this came out in 2019, but I think Iām just going to ignore the fact that this blind world was caused by a virus.
In my opinion, since even before 2020, there were so many pandemic plots, I think this shouldāve just been an AU situation or something.
(If you donāt speak fan fiction lol, AU stands for alternate universe.)
Being stuck in the cave and not having light is interesting. I would think that a sighted child growing up in a blind society would still develope skills that blind people use. Like being able to navigate without light. But maybe not, maybe Iām wrong.
Also Baba Voss being like, āwell follow me then,ā when the flame goes out. Great. Love.
Are they using real ASL for the blind when they communicate without talking, or is it just made up?
I do know some ASL myself, but not for the blind, so I canāt tell.
Either way, it is neat that they do have a solution for nonverbal communication.
Parisā speech when they separate from the kids in episode 7, yes.

Obviously all fantastic representation.
But I donāt know if this story was for me, wasnāt my favorite.
I think there is supposed to be a season 2, but got delayed because of COVID. Iād probably watch it. If not just for all the really cool fight scenes.
I was worried, for quite a bit of it, it seemed that the message was that vision is ābetterā, but I thought that couldnāt be right. But now I understand that I have seen all of it.
I am curious to know how they did their casting.
It is not my place to go in-depth on this topic, but I felt the cast was very diverse.
And I think a show about a blind society is the perfect time to do true color blind casting.
Well, I think those are all of my final thoughts.
I think Queen Kane shouldāve died, but anyway...
I donāt know if it was controversial that 2 of the actors that played main characters werenāt actually blind, but no matter what, I think they did an excellent job.
If anyone is actually interested in my thoughts on blind representation in media, I would gladly do this again.
Could do Toph in Avatar, or In The Dark, or any other suggestions.
