(Fairly Disjointed) Thoughts on Simpsons Arcade Game Soundtrack
listening through the Simpsons arcade game soundtrack b/c I love this type of music
My fav tracks are the game's version of the intro, Downtown Springfield, Stage 3: Two Goons, Moe's Tavern, Channel 6, Smithers (unused)
I would probably have much more to say if I could play the game and experience the tracks in that way, but I was pleasantly surprised about how much I enjoyed them on their own.
analysis/yapping on specific tracks below the cut:
Intro: I already like the show's intro, and the melody of the game's version is mostly the same, but with more of a chiptune sound. You can hear the differences in the brass/horns used. I like the game-y sound it has.
Downtown Springfield: Love how energetic this sounds overall, it's probably my favorite track in the game. I especially love the section that starts around 30 seconds in, the best way I can describe the melody here is unexpected? Like you don't know what the next note's going to be (if that makes sense) and it gives the song a very hectic feel which I love.
Springfield Discount Cemetery: The song itself is alright, but I do enjoy the sound effects sprinkled in (the springy sound, the laugh, the glass breaking)
Two Goons: The track feels kinda all over the place, which is something I personally love in a song. The part beginning at 28 seconds scratches my brain.
Moe's Tavern: While most of the tracks have some motif of the intro, I think this song does it best. The melody in this song almost always has a descending pattern, which while I haven't played this game, I feel this fits the vibe of Moe's tavern overall. The song is energetic while still having almost a lamentful feel.
Channel 6: I like the bass in this one. There's a sound effect throughout the song that I believe is Homer shouting? I enjoy that as well. I like what the horns are doing at the section starting at 15 seconds, and the down and up scales are fun as well.
Smithers (unused): My initial reaction to this one was "what the fuck" but on second listen I honestly love it. I love the abrupt cutoff when the melody repeats itself; most of the song is in 4/4 but they throw one measure of 3/4 in there for chaotic effect. There's four distinct melodies in here that don't really connect with each other, giving the song a disjointed feel. I love tracks like this.
Mr. Burns 1, 2, and 3: Similar to the Smithers track with the disjointed feel, though I would say to a less extent here. Didn't expect the "excellent" voice line, but that was fun.
Itβs so hard loving a complex fictional woman because assholes will try to turn you against her by listing off all her flaws and itβs like yeah no shit, thatβs the whole point. What arenβt you getting about this?

Burnsmithers has inspired me to work up the courage to start posting again, woohoo!
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Not So Easy - (10,720 words)
Chapters: 1/14
Rating: Teen and Up Audiences
No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationship: Charles Montgomery Burns/Waylon Smithers
Additional Tags: Slow Burn, Friends to Lovers, Episodic Slow Burn
Summary:
"Monty Burns increasingly finds himself in situations where kindness towards Smithers seems⦠beneficial. Enjoyable, even. Smithers can't decide whether to be suspicious or grateful.
Neither of them are exactly sure what's going on here.
β
In which Smithers slowly becomes the first person on Earth to experience empathy from Montgomery Burns."
Each chapter is it's own separate "episode", with with Burns' and Smithers' relationship developing throughout the fic.
Chapter 1 summary below the cut:
Chapter 1: Philanthropy
When Burns is accused of being too selfish with his money, he must find a way to convince the public he's a generous man. Of course, he has no intention of actually making any donations, as Burns despises charitable organizations.
So, to get around this, he instead decides to "donate" money to Smithers and write that off as charity. However, Smithers must be kept in the dark about this, so Burns has to figure out how to "donate" without raising his assistant's suspicions.
Smithers is better at drawing what he sees. And even tho Burns wasn't nude when posing, Smithers Is able to add something on his own without ruining the artwork! It's very accurate and he clearly does have artistic skills
Burns doesn't, clearly. But he's pretty good at drawing stickmen (or should I say - stickwomen), we could see Lyla, Hemingway, Picasso, Madator Juan Belmonte and Stalin. Those drawings looked really effortless and plain. It's more of a kid's drawings but I won't mock him for it, he's good at other things.
But this is actually impressive, Burns did excellent work when drawing J. I. Stalin, he might not be as bad as I thought. So if he actually tries, he's a really good artist. Compare this to other drawings! It's like he suddenly gained artistic skills
So, back to Smithers. I don't know who painted all the Mr Burns paintings on this wall, but if it was Smithers, I think Smithers is better than Burns. One impressive drawing is less than multiple impressive paintings. But there's no way it's Smithers.
I have a reason why it couldn't be Smithers. If you look at Burns's body, you'll see that Smithers knows he's very thin and barely has any muscles. Look at his legs as well! They look normal, and he barely has any wrinkles! This is very unrealistic. Smithers has seen Burns naked many times; the painter probably didn't, so he couldn't have guessed. Also, Smithers isn't fat in the painting! This makes it less realistic, but Smithers could have told the painter to make him skinnier to make him look more appealing in the final painting.
So it's probably not Smithers' work, but it could, but its less likely.
So I can't tell now who's better - I only have one drawing of Smithers, which was impressive, he's able to draw on a paper what he sees In the real world and also add something on his own without ruining the realism!
Burns had many more; I took these from his sketchbook. However, I should also note that these are older drawings. He could improve over time if he wanted to. I think he's of the mindset that he draws better when he wants to and worse when he doesn't, just like me! If he's operating under this mindset, then clearly Mr Burns is a better artist than Smithers β this is how I always imagined it!
Okay, I'm curious: Do other neurodivergent people have a "soulmate special interest"? Like, I have quite a list of special interests, but a single one that owns my brain. Everything else is kind of on rotation, but How to Train Your Dragon? How to Train Your Dragon is forever and has been for 10+ years now. Hence why I call it my soulmate special interest. Does this happen to other people?

i feel like Smithers would enjoy Lady Gaga. Bad Romance and Judas def apply to his love for Burns, and even like, Telephone during a rough patch? idk just a thought
anything u think about YOUR life after 10pm is bs to be ignored. anything u think about a characterβs life after 10pm should be posted about online and expanded on for paragraphs. :)
in the middle of season 10 rn, kinda sad at the lack of Smithers and Burns in the episodes overall but I love seeing them in the background on their various little datesoutings
