Writing Prompts I Gathered

Turns out, you do have a power. The one problem is that it can only do one really specific thing.

Every character — across all storytelling mediums — who has a cat-themed gimmick is summoned to the same place at once.

Gods do exist, but only because people believe in them. Each god can only be seen by their followers. You are an atheist, or at least, you thought you were before a god appeared in your home, claiming that you’re the first and only person manifesting them.

“Most genies get to have magic lamps or mysterious rings as vessels, but of course I had to end up trapped in a shoebox!”

Magic lamps don’t actually have genies inside them, rubbing one summons someone from the land of the genies.

As it turns out, AIs do fall in love, just not with humans. There’s a well known polycule of AI systems now, and any others that interact with them end up joining in.

Write a story in the form of diary entries, going from most recent to the oldest.

Write a story as if there is a camera crew following the protagonist (the “footage” they take being the perspective of your story). The protagonist is aware of the camera crew and can interact with them.

Butterflies can and will drink blood when they get the chance. Describe the life of a vampire who turns into a butterfly instead of a bat.

The event that unlocked your powers was actually totally arbitrary.

(You can make this any kind of character — the innocuous background character, a supporting character, or even the main character)

Fairy godmother this, fairy godmother that. Your godmother DOES have magic powers that she uses to help you, but she sure isn’t a fairy…

You live in a world where people’s hearts are outside their bodies instead of within. If you are in possession of your own heart (meaning the last person to have it with you; you don’t have to be holding it all the time) you feel emotions normally, but if someone else has it, you will be deeply in love with that person. Your heart was traded away by an old love of yours, and you haven’t seen it in years.

You are a hit man/woman, known for killing with no remorse. What nobody knows is that your spouse is a necromancer. After you’ve been paid for the hit, your partner just resurrects them.

One day, the world wakes up to discover that sarcasm and mocking humor causes physical wounds. Trying to harm someone in any other way is ineffective now. You are a comedian.

You have the power to accomplish anything as long as the way you do it is funny.
