Black and Pink is a prison abolitionist organization that uses a pen-pal program as the core of their work. The reasoning behind this is that “relationship-building through the prison walls is not only a key piece of our work but also informs the rest of our work.” Black and Pink works to center the needs of LGBTQ people and/or people with HIV/AIDS.

There are current chapters in a variety of cities, including Boston, NYC, Chicago, New Orleans, and more! You also have the option of starting a chapter in your city!

Black and Pink’s ongoing projects include;

“A Pen Pal Program on the internet. LGBTQ prisoners can list their information and a short (non-sexual) ad. People in the free world choose to write to people on the list.

A Monthly Newspaper with stories, poetry, art, and articles by LGBTQ people in prison. The Newspaper also has queer and prison news from the free world.

Support for a small number of people who are experiencing harassment, sexual violence, lack of access to health care, etc.

Court Accompaniment Support and advocacy for court involved people in Eastern Massachusetts (soon to start up with other chapters)

Chapters! Free world allies across the country are growing their own chapters, including Boise, Chicago, San Diego, and others.

Indigenous women experience exponentially higher rates of violence, which often goes unaccounted for. The MMIW Database seeks to fill these gaps in data by logging cases of missing and murdered indigenous women, girls, and two spirit people. Help us do this work by supporting our records request campaign–you can make a difference with as little as $3! All donations will be used to cover the costs of records requests to law enforcement and government agencies for MMIW case data–we pay MuckRock $3 per request for their services in helping us to file these requests (it’s a mess, and their help really streamlines the process!), and in addition to that, sometimes agencies will ask us to pay for the time and labor it takes for them to pull and scan these records. Your donation will go straight to MuckRock, to help cover these costs. If we reach our goal of $1500, that will pay for over 400 new records requests! We are submitting requests to tribal, city, county, state, and federal law enforcement, as well as correctional facilities (for deaths in custody), so we have a long way to go, but we can get there with your help.

since donations have pretty much stopped, im gonna rewrite this post as i’m kind of needing money to pay for bills and food and all kinds of stuff…

i’m a 15 year old afro latina girl who is unable to get a job. i live with only my mother who is currently jobless.

my mother is struggling to find a job and it’s likely we won’t find one for the summer, and she’ll be back on her feet in mid august since she’s a teacher.

and because she’s a teacher,

no she does not get pay during summer. we don’t get any money for the entirety of the summer. and i really don’t understand why i keep getting asked that

she is taking surveys and ubering and trying to make money but it isn’t enough money at all to pay for bills or food.

i have no ways to make money either, and i can’t get a job at age 15 in my city, it’s actually impossible

i really need money at this point. we have barely anything to actually get some and i’m weak from not eating much and i need money for anything like clothes, food, bills and even refilling medication soon.

all im asking is to just reblog this and spread it around if you can’t spare any money, i’m actually desperate

I think it’s a possibility. smarter, more observant people than me have worked out meta on this. A few weeks ago I saw a post about Bucky’s bruising/bleeding after Steve rescues him in ca:tfa

and how it compares to Winter Soldier in the chair:

It’s certainly a compelling argument. Whether or not they tested a rudimentary version of mind wiping technology on him, there’s a lot to be said for the way Bucky dresses before and after his capture. There’s a deliberateness to everything he wears, both from the directors/costumer designers in the movie to Bucky himself, because his clothing certainly does tell a story. There’s been fantastic meta on Bucky’s clothing, too. Let’s take a look at the Bucky we first meet:

what a dapper motherfucker.  So pristine, and (mostly) to regulation with his tie and collar just so, with just a little bit of charm and personality shining through with the jaunty angle of his hat.  This is why most people agree that Bucky Barnes cares about his appearance, that he cares about it so much that he used his hat to set himself apart.

The next time we see him before he’s captured is the deleted scene where he’s wearing his helmet.  Again, it’s at an angle, but whereas the hat choice is deliberate, I would argue the helmet was donned rapidly. The fact that it isn’t buckled bothered me (like he was being cavalier with his safety/had to look good in the middle of a war zone) until I saw American Sniper, where there was a very similar moment where the sniper finished sniping and then moved to put his helmet on, very quickly with the emphasis on getting it on rather than fitting it properly, and I went ‘ooooh, that could explain it’. Bucky might need to get it on and off quickly so it isn’t obstructing his shooting. I’m sure there’s also a possibility both are for movie purposes too, blocking and face shots etc. 

This is the last time we see something on his head until he’s in the mask as the Winter Soldier.

Let’s take a moment to compare Bucky before he’s shipped off, to Bucky post-capture.

First of all, no hat. Second, compare this to Bucky done up in full uniform from the first scenes.  We’ve all read the fantastic meta that talks about his mental state in this scene, and I agree with that.  This is a Bucky who can’t bring himself to wear his full regulation uniform.

But take a look.

And suddenly, his outfit in the bar scene becomes more of a focused, deliberate lack of regulation uniform.  He literally cannot bring himself to do up his collar or tie, and it doesn’t get better.

His jacket is never done up fully, just tucked in.  It LOOKS dapper as fuck, and I’m sure he’s aware he looks good in it, but if he picked it out himself as we enjoy speculating, he also picked something he’d be warm in but could also get it away from his neck with a quick tug.  Is this so he can breathe easier? Is it because he actually had something around his head and neck while tortured?  We could get into the possibilities indefinitely.

Bucky slipped the extent of his trauma right past his best friend. Steve doesn’t seem to have any idea how fragile Bucky is, even though Bucky’s practically hanging a neon sign on it with these wardrobe changes.
