if you are a writer for nct i highly recommend going through this post on asianfanfics and asking the poster to take down your stories if you do not allow reposting of your work. a ton of my stories are on there and i had to leave a comment on the collection to request it be taken down.

- letting the author know through an ask

- giving it a like

- reblogging the content with tags voicing your opinion

- writing your thoughts about the work.

- buying a kofi

but you know what is NOT the way to show it?:

- reposting without consent

because let me tell you: this is stealing. you’re stealing someone’s writing, that piece that costed blood, sweat and tears, that piece that the writer spent hours, days, even MONTHS writing and planning out, to share their feelings with you, to share their masterpieces for FREE.

It can take me weeks, sometimes even months to get a fic finished because I have to find the inspiration and will to write. Some fics are done quickly, but it still takes HOURS to write it and edit. And then you gotta make the banner, come up with the synopsis, link it all etc.

It’s so much effort that readers frankly don’t realise go into it. Neon Seoul, the other week, took me about 4 or 5 days to write because I was into it. Rigor Mortis last year took me about 3 MONTHS to get through. A Universe to You took a few months. And I write fast, so there’s other authors for who they put out a lot less because it takes them longer to write.

Their work is just as good, because we all work at our own paces, but it’s still so much time and effort. The amount of stressing we have behind the scenes that a fic isn’t good, that it’s lame or rushed, that it doesn’t make sense, that the sentences are stilted. We’re doing this for fucking FREE and to see people just…straight up steal that shit and claim it.

In the two years of me writing fanfiction, I’ve put out around 900k worth of words…for free. This year ALONE I’ve done 216k already. Do people even REALISE how much that is?! A lot of professional authors don’t write that much a year. And it’s all done for free, in my spare time and put out for free. I’ve earnt nothing from fanfiction and I never will. I’m okay wih that because I do it because I enjoy it. I’m sure that’s the same reason other people do it too. THAT DOES NOT GIVE PEOPLE PERMISSION TO STEAL OTHER’S WORK.

And it’s even more aggravating when a lot of authors are starved for feedback and comments. I wish I could get those long reviews some people do where they analyse so much because I live for them, and so do other authors. I appreciate any feedback I get, but when you spend probably…30 hours writing a fic to get almost nothing? And to then see someone having the AUDACITY to steal the fic?
