Working title/description: winter sun

Synopsis: When 13-year-old Alina sees a half-frozen Zoya bleeding in the snow, she accidentally awakens her powers to warm her, and is swiftly taken to the Little Palace. Zoya is intent on disliking the annoying Sun Summoner, but over the years her dislike turns into friendship, and her friendship, into something even more confusing. As the Darkling’s somber possessiveness looms over them, eager to own and shape them in his image, Zoya and Alina must find the strength to stand their ground. 

Apart, they are powerful. Together, they might have a fighting chance.

Short excerpt: Then, Zoya felt sunlight.

Warm and gentle on her skin, it had to be Death coming to claim her — why else would she feel the heat of the sun in the middle of this winter night? Even during the day the sun wasn’t this warm, this close to the Permafrost. 

This is a nice way to go, she thought. Zoya had always been more suited for warm weather. 

“Come on, please,” a little voice begged. “Please don’t die.” 

Zoya struggled to flutter open her frozen lashes. “What…” 

Above her leaned a girl with tears pearling from her eyes — and they were such beautiful eyes, dark as trees and oceans in the night. She looked Zoya’s age or thereabout, with silky black hair and a pale, delicate face.

And, impossibly, the girl was glowing.

Working title/description: Like Real People Do

Synopsis: Paris, 1961.

You are strong enough to survive the fall. 

Zoya Nazyalensky was left with no choice but to work for the organization that held her family’s fate in their hands. Even as she rose through the ranks and gained respect, failure was still inevitable. And when she happens to blow one crucial mission because of her poor judgment, the reputation she’d worked so hard to build crumbles to nothing. 

Everything gets you in the end.

Nikolai Lantsov prided himself as an expert of “complicated acquisition”, until he was caught by the CIA and offered an ultimatum: work for them or spend his life behind bars. But after failing the last mission that would have finally let him walk free, his contract with them is extended. 

The two spies are forced to work together to thwart a threat to world peace. Despite knowing it can only end in tragedy, they find their history pushing them dangerously close to each other again, even letting their bruised hearts hope that there could be something for them after all this. 

aka: enemies to lovers, fake marriage, there was only one bed, mutual pining, and lots of angst
