DouShino is genuinely one of the best quasi canon Het ships in KNY. I love it for its possibility. Enemies to lovers? Sign me up! The dark potential? *chef's kiss* DouShino is such a good ship and I think its better than GiyuShino in every aspect

So in saying all that this is where my problems with some GiyuShino shippers lie. They are like SaneKanae shippers (have to distinguish cause SaneKan would mean Kanao, love that ship btw) in that they say their ship is canon

Now I can agree its quasi canon in the sense of that one moon phrase. But other than that? Where is the evidence? Same with SaneKanae. Where is my proof

Here’s an introduction to the fanart:

In this AU - Douma and Shinobu lives in the same era. The Kochou family adopted Douma as a child after a demon attack at his Eternal Paradise cult's temple, not long after his parents' death.

As he grew up Douma constantly got bullied by the children of his age, even harassment from older ones because of his peculiar appearance: platinum blond hair and rainbow-colored eyes. His little 'protector' - Shinobu always stood her ground despite being small, giving the bullies what they deserve for messing with a member of her family, for which the 'emotionless child' grew fond of the brave girl as time flew by. Douma eventually learned to feel true emotions as a human being, therefore had a memorable childhood with loving adopted parents and siblings - Kanae and Shinobu.

Then disaster fell upon the happy family. One winter night, 16-year-old Shinobu returned home from helping her parents fetching pharmaceutical products in town, only to witness the carnage laid clear before her eyes in the steps of her own home: blood stained floor, broken windows and door panels, her parents were no more. Further back to the backyard laid a barely alive Douma, covering her sister Kanae's cold body in his arms with gaping wounds on his back and head. Fighting through panic and despair, Shinobu managed to hoist Douma by the shoulder out of their home looking for help. From then on little did she know that their fate was going to change forever.

But existing alongside it is another prominent fantasy that is rarely subjected to an unfair level of scrutiny simply because it is more socially acceptable: the fantasy of an unproblematic and good guy - the eternally green flag - who won't give you any drama or trouble and who is non threatening, who offers stability and, most importantly, represents security and safety. And honestly, this is understandable because many women are conditioned since an early age that they are to avoid danger and risks at all costs. Protecting them, at times unintentionally, becomes an excuse to keep them confined within the walls of their household. The promise of safety becomes the cage and comfort its furnishings. Yet, even that cage doesn't make women less vulnerable to harm.

This is why fiction matters because it is one realm where there is room for every kind of fantasy. Here, women can be safe and protected till the end of their days. Simultaneously, they can also partake in dangerous relationships and situations and end up victorious. Yet, it is the latter that gets subjected to derision, judgment and policing while the former is not only left unchecked but is arbitrarily imposed on every story.

There is an expectation placed on fictional female characters across genres, and irrespective of background and personality, to stick to safe and 'vetted' relationships, if they are to have a romance at all. In a dark and messed up dynamic with a male character, their only identity can be that of a victim and everything else must cease to exist. It is also expected from creators and audience to not 'romanticize' the said dynamic. It shackles these characters and strips them off their individuality. It turns them into one homogenous symbol and restricts their potential for complexity. Worse is when real women who write and enjoy such stories are punished in a bid to 'protect' the fictional woman who doesn't need their protection in the first place. It is tiresome.
