“Now that summer is approaching… I say someone ought to take me swimming… Or throw a pool party. I just really want an excuse to tan myself and to wear my new bikini,” she shrugged, addressing the person closest to her. “If you’re ever down, let me know… I’m sure you don’t look half bad in swimwear yourself.”

“You want someone to take you swimming? I’m down for a pool party or the beach. Wherever you wanna go.” Flora wasn’t fussy, the opportunity to swim wasn’t something that she would pass up. “No, I’m down for this, let’s do it.”

“okay if i have to look at the four walls of the art building for another moment, i’m going to go completely mad. i need a distraction.”

“I have no idea how you haven’t already gone mad. What kind of distraction do you need?”

“I don’t think students realize that we hate finals as much as they do, but it’s an university mandate that we have finals of some sort. I would rather just not have finals at all and the papers are really relaxed because learning and passion does not equal grades. Anyway, how are you?”

“I know that it’s supposed to be customary to take midterms and finals, but it really sucks hard. Learning should be beautiful and with passion. You’re seriously a gem, can’t lie about that. I’m good, just stressed with school. How’re you?”

‘ listen, ’ she started, her eyes not moving from her notebook, ‘ if you’re one of those people asking around for directions because somehow you’re stupid enough to get lost after a whole year in the school, then find someone else. ’

flora turned her attention to the other girl the moment she heard her spoke. “yes, only a year and i get lost very easily. can you just help a girl out and tell me where my english class is?”

“I went out for my regular morning coffee and this dude tried to cut in line in front of me. I told him to get out of my way and go to the back of the line, so he called me a jackass and threatened to, and I quote ‘punch my fucking nose off my face’, at the top of his lungs. Long story short, he was escorted out and I got my coffee for free. I’d call that a nice way to start the day.”

“That... I don’t even really know what to say to that.” How the hell does someone respond to that? “I hope he was banned from there? Maybe he was drunk?” Probably drunk. Who yelled and made a complete asshole of themselves in public like that? “Sounds like a not very fun experience, but at least you got a free coffee, right?”

“What I’m looking for,” Ryan said, as though the person next to her was her new best friend instead of a veritable stranger, “is a party. Tonight. It’s Friday. Surely there’s something going on. If not… I’m throwing one. Are you in?”

“Huh?” Flora snapped out of her obvious train of thought when the other blonde began talking. “A party? Wait, you’re throwing one? Tonight?” This caught her off guard, for sure. “Yeah, I have nothing else to do tonight.”
