disclaimer: this is based off of my personal experience and what worked for me!

1. stop “trying”

- i was constantly preventing myself from getting the results i wanted because i was trying, instead of just being. law of assumption is all about being, assuming, and deciding. one thing that clicked for me was that my constant listening to subliminals, checking the mirror constantly, finding something new to fix, was just holding me back

- i was able to finally stop “trying” and instead just “be” when i just told myself there was nothing to fix, because i was already going to manifest my desired appearance, it was inevitable. this allowed me to stop the constant checking in the mirror, obsession with subliminals and affirmations, and beauty rituals. it was already done, so theres no reason to try.

2. i acted like the version of me who already had my desired appearance

- i took a second to reflect and think about what the future version of me who already had the appearance that i wanted would do. for example, my current self was counting calories. but in my head, i knew the “ideal” version of me would never do that, she would simply just eat healthy without needing to track it constantly. so thats exactly what i started to do. i imagined this future version of myself would drink coffees and yogurt bowls in the morning. so thats what i started doing.

- another example would be, my current version was mainly wearing baggy shirts and jeans everyday. but when i reflected, i realized that the version of myself that i wanted to be, would never wear that. i knew she would wear more fashionable and feminine pieces. so thats exactly what i started to do.

- did i feel insecure at times, or as if i wasnt “ready” to do these actions yet? sure. but i persisted, and although at times i felt uncomfortable, deep down i knew i was on the right path, like i was actively becoming who i wanted to be. that feeling was very satisfying

3. i persisted

Vito got into trouble a lot as a kid for his smart comments, teachers hated him and his mother subsequently forced him to attend church to adopt kindness like his older sister Frankie.

Joe has memorized all the Ricky’s Records advertisements and pissed Vito off by reciting them randomly.

Charlie (Carlos Lopez) hired Joe for several missions when Vito was in Italy, that’s how Joe became affiliated with Giuseppe, Bruski and Henry Tomasino. Charlie and Joe bonded instantly over rock ‘n roll. Vito and Henry consider themselves too classy for it.

Whenever someone mentions Vito’s upbringing he gets salty- not because he’s embarrassed but because he believes his father was responsible for everything he couldn’t have.

When they were slightly younger, Vito and Joe would street-race each other and a few of their old pals around Little Italy.

Vito enjoyed watching dog races, and wanted a dog of his own at some point- hence why there's pictures of dogs on his wardrobe at his mother's home. He mentioned it to Leo at some point in prison and they bonded over it- it reminded Leo of his conversations with Don Vinci and reminded Vito of conversations with his father on the few occasions he wasn’t absolutely wasted.

There was a big cockroach racing scene in prison. Pepe had his own one, which he became attached to. Either Brian or one of the guards killed it and Pepe was sent to the hole because he crashed out. That cockroach won a lot of money for him.

Joe remembers more good times with Vito and his dad than Vito does. He wishes to fix Vito’s view on his father so Vito can heal, but it never happens.

Cats hate Vito and Joe likes to add sly comments whenever one passes by, such as “Can’t get any pussy, Vito?”, “They usually purr for me.” and “That’s the closest you’ll ever get to a real pussy.”.

Henry knows how to play the clarinet and prefers instrumental music, Vito wished he had the opportunity to play piano (like his mother maybe before she moved to America?) and if Joe had to play an instrument it would be African drums or the dhol. Loud and proud, like him! Frankie is an excellent singer- her and Joe used to sing along to the radio whenever he visited Vito’s place. Vito could sing, or hum a few tunes but you’d have to get him in a merry mood.

Vito showers twice a day, I don’t think he can rest until he’s showered- especially after serving two years. It gets worse after prison. But he hates washing dishes- his mother would make him and Joe do them as punishment when they were little. (Got this one because I physically cringe seeing the sinks in the game). Joe’s even more extra with hygiene, women love him because he smells the best.

Both of them love summer because it’s prime time for “booze, broads and baseball”. They do Henry’s head in because one time he let it slip that he prefers winter.

When it comes to food, Vito’s a bit lazy. He can whip up a good meal if need be, but never usually for himself. One beer in the morning and a ham sandwich for dinner is all he needs. But he makes out to Joe that he eats well. Joe knows his way around most cuisine culture present in Empire Bay, prefers to eat rather than cook. Henry is probably the best cook out of all of them, knowing recipes like the back of his hand and introducing the pair to new combinations and such.

There was a new kid from Lost Heaven that joined school in Empire Bay. Said kid was proud of his home city, especially when it came to baseball. Vito and Joe were probably playing it with the other teen boys at some point and Joe whacked the ball straight into the new kid’s eye. All because he claimed the Lost Heaven Lancers were better than the Empire Bay Cannons.

Vito and Joe are extremely tight, obviously. But one of the reasons for this is because Joe’s bullying provided Vito with an outlet to get rid of his frustrations. Vito definitely beat up a lot of other kids because of his father. The life his mother taught him, about being a good and kind christian was something Vito felt never worked for him, he probably sees Joe as the one who taught him about ‘the real world’.

Joe is the most brutal out of the trio and that’s why Eddie and Carlo offered him to be a capo instead of Vito.

If he wasn’t a mobster, Henry would’ve become a businessman or a corporate lawyer. Winning cases, especially lawsuits, would be such an ego boost for him. If he was a legit businessman it would be for premium cigars.

Vito learned how to cope with his emotions from his father. Drowning in a bottle. There’s a lot of subconscious behaviors he’s learned from his father- including facial expressions and body language.

Joe and Vito are huge pervs. (Sorry have you seen how often Vito checks women out?!) But I do feel that the military instilled a ‘look but don’t touch’ mindset into Vito. Piled up with all the breaches of privacy from prison and religious sex education that was to scare rather than teach, he’s a bit shy when it comes to actually doing anything with women until he’s had a few. Probably why he didn’t sound overjoyed in the mission: Loving Memory of Francesco Potenza.

A lot of guys treat Vito like shit because he’s handsome. Derek and Steve definitely went a little extra on their first time meeting Vito because of that.

Henry isn’t purposefully trying to be mysterious, he just forgets to mention a lot of things about himself. His English might be so good because he’s always wanted to leave Sicily of his own volition to explore. 

Joe gets his looks and fashion sense from his mother. The older women from their first neighborhood still confuse him with his mother. In fact, Joe also gets a lot of personality from her too.

Henry also forgets to say a lot of what he’s actually thinking out loud (in general conversation). His father taught him to keep his mouth shut when it’s not business, to keep from others being able to read Henry’s personality. Vito and Joe stuck out to him from the beginning because their close friendship broke down his own walls.

Henry is also more of a devout Christian because religious beliefs and practices have been adopted, adapted, or used to justify actions within mob structures so church almost feels like his father talking to him sometimes.

Character History/Quirks & Habits:

1. He smokes and drinks from an early age, and guess who introduces/encourages him to try them? Joe, of course. But I think he’d try to hide it from his Mamma out of respect, or fear of getting his ass beaten LOL. Even when he’s older, he doesn’t show these habits in front of her, probably finding it awkward and stuff.

2. He is a big, big baseball fan (canon, right?), but my headcanon is that it started out due to it being one of the first and happiest memories he’d ever have of his family when they first emigrated to Empire Bay. Like it was probably the fondest memory he had of them before everything fell apart. Also he was enamoured by how loud and exciting his first baseball game was. Even had dreams about becoming a professional player at one point, hence the baseball posters beside his childhood bed.

3. Vito definitely adopted some PTSD/anxiety after returning from the war and even prison (I wished the game devs explored this more tbh). Vito is very careful, detail-oriented and kept asking questions to make sure their plans are foolproof, so I personally find this being his anxiety at play. He’s afraid of messing up, of seeing people he cared about get hurt and doesn’t want to have his freedom restricted again (he was very, very sarcastic when Joe suggested something as “easy” and he countered it back by saying an easy job was what landed him in jail in the first place). But he tries to hide it because he doesn’t want to be seen as “weak”, especially for someone in his profession.

4. I also think he’s a light sleeper after all the traumatic experiences he went through. He’ll wake up at the slightest noise, light or anything that disturbs his sleep. Partly due to his war training, partly due to prison as a way to keep himself safe.

Romantic Relationships:

1. He is definitely the type to fall HARD. I’m talking unwavering loyalty, physical touches that won’t end (privately of course, he is kinda embarrassed about PDA/being seen as “soft” smh gender roles in the 50s) and unspoken protection. One bad word about the person he is in love with and you’re done for. (He is very protective of his loved ones and their extensions like Joe’s girl – when he beat up a man for getting mad at her for a car crash) Also despite the whole sleeping around schtick in the game, I do think that if Vito was given a proper love interest, they would be the only person he’ll ever be interested in. 100% whipped. Would be into the whole marriage and kids thing if he was…normal. (He did mentioned about ‘finding a girl and settling down’ in the early parts of the game)

2. Which brings me to my next point: he is afraid of settling down because he knows his life is constant danger and mayhem. I think he’d not only be afraid of dying while his spouse/kids are young, he would also be scared of what the repercussions would be for his family. Plus, I think he is terrified of becoming a father, because he doesn’t want to end up just like his Papa – and the Derek confrontation scene proves that he will always be his father’s son. He is wise enough to know no kids of his ever deserves the life he had :(

3. If he does go on dates and stuff, he is the ultimate 50s era gentleman. Opens the car door for you before you could, pays for everything, walks closest to the sidewalk, lends you his coat if you’re cold. He doesn’t smoke in front of you if you don’t like the smell. He picks you up and sends you home on time. He buys flowers/gifts every time when you’re on dates. He memorises your preferences, by the way. Like your favourite flower, drink, etc. Calls you before a date just to confirm, calls you after it ends just to say he had a great time, that he misses you etc. (UGH MODERN MEN CAN NEVER-)

Post-Game Headcanons:

1. He respected Frankie’s decision to cut him off, but silently kept tabs on her to make sure she was still doing okay through his contacts (especially when he was sent to New Bordeaux). He doesn’t try to grovel or come back because he thinks he’s far too gone for someone good like his sister, anyways. He thinks she’s better off without him, that way, none of the mafia crap would ever come to her.

2. Vito learnt to properly cook in New Bordeaux (if you do the Vito side missions in Mafia 3 he would tell you he’s been cooking his Mamma’s bucatini recipe). I think he not only misses his mother and his home, but he eventually learnt to ‘grow up’ and do normal everyday chores now, and one of the best ways was to honour his mother’s recipes.

3. After everything h’e’d been through, Vito thinks he’s cursed by God (in one Mafia 3 scene he said God had a funny sense of humour, I think). He always assumed he’ll die young (in the war, prison, doing mafia stuff) so he kinda made peace with that. But he realised his curse wasn’t that – it was to watch everyone he loves die/disappear before he could. His curse was this: living a long life but lonely. :(
