Today is the first anniversary of AZ and Nerine getting married 🥺 I don't have anything new to post today, but here's a comm from last year I never posted (by @/miyabau !)

I admit I have been feeling a little insecure lately.... Though I try my best to avoid them, it's been difficult not to come across other AZ ships while just trying to look for fanart of him ... and I notice that a lot of dynamics tend to be on the fluffy side, with maybe a little bit of angst involving the canon storyline. And it does make me feel a little bad that I choose to explore a dynamic that's more toxic, where even at their best it's hard to say if they're truly good for one another. And while I do love these dynamics (even my healthier couples will have a very rough start), it's hard not to feel a little Off about it 🥹 like I'm doing it wrong somehow.

Of course I don't want to change anything... I don't have any desire to fit into a mold, and all I can really ever do is be Myself. And myself is someone who likes messy, complicated, imperfect love, even if it's not the most common or conventional thing. And while I certainly know better than to compare.... It's just a bit difficult recently 💔

Of course the biggest issue is that no one looks like AZ, even if you ignore him being 9ft tall. They'd have to have something Crazy going on to manage it 😭 anyways. My point is a few days ago I had the idea of Yveltal (Nerine's deadbeat ancestral deity) finally trying to Do Something but of course being a giant bird/moth/dragon death god she doesn't really understand what humans need when they're grieving. And so her idea is to just replace what was lost. And Yveltal does this by taking its own empty husk from a previous cocoon and (perhaps with a little help from Xerneas) creates a "clone" of AZ.

There is no one in the world like AZ nor will there ever be anyone else like him, for better and for worse. It is impossible to truly replicate him. And so while this clone resembles him, sounds like him, and even physically resembles him (with some major differences), it is of course Not AZ.

Nerine is a little horrified by this gift she did Not ask for. The clone (who is given the name Zas) doesn't quite understand, because even with knowledge planted in his head about the man he is supposed to resemble, it is vastly different from actually having those experiences. And so he wanders a bit in his own way, wanting to learn more about the man who came before him... but also wondering how to make Nerine see him for him, and not as a copy of someone who is no longer around.

Because, though he feels some strange longing that is undoubtedly a result of how he was made... he is certain his feelings for Nerine are genuine.
