Precursor, I mean no disrespect to PB or their employees. I genuinely am grateful to each and every one of them for giving us such an incredible story. This is just my opinion on the finale and how it could’ve been done better.

So not only am i devastated that Endless Summer is officially over, but now i’m also devastated that the so called “finale” we were given was a big slap in the face. And while I still believe there should have been a happy ending, that’s not why I’m upset. I’m upset because this was not a well executed ending. This was lazy.

Honestly, Book 3 as a whole felt very lazy. The plot was a mess, important details such as the identity of Estela’s father and MC’s origin were just thrown at us with little explanation, the ending fight with Rourke amounted to practically nothing, and the endings were half-assed and felt very disrespectful to these amazing characters who deserve better than a lazy ending like this. And don’t even get me started on how Book 3 was about 4 to 6 chapters shorter than the two previous books, because that’s enough of a problem in itself.

But let’s specifically talk about this “finale” and why it is the most upsetting of all. Despite the fact that it only took about 10 minutes to read (and that’s including the collection of the Endless’ memories that had absolutely ZERO effect on the story other than to serve as makeshift bloopers), there was hardly any closure! I chose to stay on the island for the rest of my life, and all i get to see is the next day where everyone’s either playing football or building a sandcastle and then making me feel bad about my choice? NO. They’re on the island FOREVER. Why wasn’t there a scene set a few years in the future where we see how far everyone’s come? You can’t just abruptly end the story with them being all like “Welp I guess we’re stuck here,”. We want to see what their futures are like on the island! We want to see a few years later when they’ve really built a life and made La Huerta their home, not just the next day! This decision was MAJOR. It will affect the rest of the catalysts lives, and this lazy ending didn’t feel very significant at all.

But aside from the so-called finale, let’s talk about some other things that fell short. For instance, the handfasting. Now I for one wanted this since Book 1 because to me, it made sense when I thought about it from the catalyst’s perspective. These kids are trapped on an island and may die before they can get back home, so of course if they fall in love with someone, they’re gonna want to make use of all the time they have with them. But what irritated me is not that the wedding happened, but that it felt inconsequential. In 2 of the 3 possible futures, you wouldn’t even be with your LI, because they either forget you or you’re dead, and in Option 2, you see absolutely NOTHING about your marriage except for waking up with them the morning after your “fight” with Rourke. And let’s not even start on the fact that to begin with, the only way to even get married was to raise your relationship with your LI, which can only be achieved through premium choices. You’d think after all that work and ACTUAL DIAMONDS spent throughout THREE BOOKS to make this happen, you’d get a little recognition of your marriage in each ending. But no. It was tossed aside almost immediately.

And to top things off, let’s examine the “epic battle” between the catalysts and Rourke. Rourke has opened a vortex to FUCKING CONSUME THE WHOLE REALITY, and how do we defeat him? We punch him once and he gives up. Great job everyone. This is unfair to Rourke as a character, because this whole time, he has been worked up to be this powerful agent of chaos, but the final battle was literally nothing close to that. Fuck, we fought Lundgren more in that chapter than Rourke, and Lundgren wasn’t even introduced until halfway through Book 2 and rarely made appearances after that. We’ve dealt with Rourke before. We know what’s he’s capable of. The idea that he would just give up so easily is quite frankly ridiculous. Rourke was about to get everything he had been working for over the whole series. Why would he just give up so easily? That is so unlike his character.

There are several other things we could talk about as well, such as the embers and how they didn’t contribute to the story at all other than the fact that you could speak with Vaanu if you collected them. We could talk about the meaningless plot holes that will never be resolved, like the purpose of Kele and the whereabouts of all the hotel guests who HAVE STILL NEVER BEEN FOUND! We could also talk about how Endless Summer has gone on AT LEAST THREE HIATUSES, two of which occured in Book 3 only A FEW WEEKS APART! We could talk about the shortcomings all day, but there is really just one thing that needs to be said;

PB. DO BETTER. DON’T DO THIS AGAIN.

This was an incredible let down for me. Endless Summer was one of the most popular series on your app. The amount of fan connection to this series is something that will probably never be matched again. The amount of fan art and fan fictions for this series was astounding. And don’t forget about the amount of money that i know was spent to buy diamonds just for this series alone, and i know because i purchased diamonds ONLY for this series. It’s a shame how far this series fell over it’s course. This series deserved so much better than the disrespectful ending it got.

I also want to bring up the fact that so many fans have been tweeting you and messaging you BEGGING for another book, even if it’s just a 5 chapter epilogue like RoE: Newlyweds. I just want to know why RoE, a book that is pretty much despised among this fandom, gets a sequel when maybe TWO people asked for it, but Endless Summer does not, even though there are a CRAP TON OF PEOPLE asking for more?
