geto doesn’t share
you and geto surprisingly become friends when you and gojo break up.
it had been 3 months since gojo had broken up with you after a year of whirlwind romance. 3 months of crying, breaking no-contact, and an embarrassing number of failed hinge matches. your biweekly breakdowns became routine to your friends shoko and utahime, showing up with bottles of wine and a joint.
slowly, geto found himself joining the two in comforting you. when you and gojo dated, he maintained a respectful courtesy towards you, his best friend’s girlfriend.
he watched sympathetically when gojo would shut you out for days on end and watch as your face crumbled every time. he felt his stomach twisting when gojo would confide in him, get a little high, and then start talking about you.
“don’t give me that look, suguru. i just don’t wanna be bothered by her 24/7.” gojo rambled on, his usually alert eyes now half-lidded and his whites notably red.
geto nodded in half assed agreement. he could imagine the look on your face if you had heard half of the things gojo said about you after the two of you fought.
you would bite your bottom lip, and then quickly turn your head slightly to the left to hide how fast he knew tears welled up in your eyes. your eyes would cast downward and your voice became small and you’d quietly excuse yourself.
geto learned first hand all of your little habits from the sheer amount of times he would witness a fight between you two. despite that, he never felt it his place to comfort you. his best friend’s girlfriend.
however, that has since changed.
shoko and utahime convince him you need this. that it’ll be good for her to see a friend. i barely know her, he wants to say, but keeps his mouth shut.
so when he finally arrives at your apartment, he’s fully prepared to give you some cordial advice and a pat on the shoulder. he did not expect you to be a sniffling, blabbering mess, instantly throwing your face into his shoulder and crying.
his heart nearly stopped before awkwardly side hugging you. you sniffle and look up at him, too depressed to remember the lack of relationship you always had with geto.
this was the closest geto had ever been to you. your eyes are watery and red but still seem to stare up at him like the cutest thing he had ever seen. your cheeks were pink and tear streaked but he had to fight the overwhelming urge to bite pinch them.
that night, you took geto to the couch and talked his head off for hours. the previous awkwardness had dissolved like it had never existed, like the two of you had known each other for ages.
one minute geto would be clutching his stomach from the jokes you cracked and the next minute you’d be sobbing into his arms.
overnight, you and geto became closer than anyone you’d ever met.
he gave you advice that actually went through to you. he told you the harsh truths you needed to hear and knew the right thing to say every time.
he’d tune gojo out when he’d complain about him being friends with his ex. “suguruuu you’re supposed to be on my side,” he’d whine, kicking his legs like a toddler.
he’d only shrug his shoulders.

it has now been 8 months since you and gojo broke up. you had stopped crying long ago and continued to hang out with geto.
he was ecstatic the day you had stopped shedding tears over his best friend. your conversations became lighthearted and you had now spent more time with him sober than inebriated.
the two of you had lunch everyday and 3/4 of each other’s schedule in sync. the two of you were inseparable. and geto liked it that way.
he enjoyed your routine together, an unspoken but undeniable fondness for being your best friend.
which is why he was so irked when you casually suggested going to the frat party that night. specifically, gojo’s frat.
he mentally cursed himself for helping you. you moved on, sure, but some part of geto felt unease at the thought of you being in the same room as gojo. what if you caught feelings for him again? what if gojo caught feelings for you again?
that last thought made geto’s stomach churn. he forced a smile onto his face and nodded, agreeing to go with you.
you only beamed that smile that turned his insides to jelly.

suguru geto wanted to die in a hole. if all of the worst combination of events were combined into one, it would be this very moment.
just as he had expected, you and gojo ran into each other. and just as he had expected, your conversation was amicable. too amicable.
he watched as you laughed, hard, at his joke, and the way gojo’s eyes were overflowing with happiness. for the first time in months, he saw the smile reach gojo’s eyes again. and of course, it was seeing you.
the same gojo who didn’t find nearly as much interest in your hobbies as he does. the same gojo who didn’t watch your favorite movies and caress your hair like he does. you slept in his arms, met his family, wore his t-shirts, so why did he want to throw up and dissipate into thin air at the sight of you smiling at gojo?
he wondered if you missed gojo. he wondered if gojo missed you. he wondered if he was about to watch you fall back in love with the lovable, perfect satoru gojo all over again.
your eyes meet geto’s and you instantly light up. you quickly excuse yourself from gojo and walk over to the wall where geto was brooding.
you wore the black top that geto bought for your birthday and the mini skirt he helped you pick on one of your mall runs.
truthfully, when you spun around, asking him if the skirt was cute, his eyes were nowhere near it. he was fixed on the pure joy on your face at twirling like a princess.
he just nodded, dumbstruck and whipped.
you were all dressed up for him, and nobody knew it. “suguru! why aren’t you dancing?” you playfully nudge his arm.
he stayed silent for a minute, eyes boring holes into the crowd. you stare up at him expectingly, with those big, shiny eyes, and he can feel his heart about to explode.
“don’t get back with him.”
your eyes widen in surprise at the sheer bluntness of his words. he looked at you with dead seriousness before raising his palm to cup your cheek with a tenderness that made your breath catch in your throat.
“let me treat you better than he ever could,” his voice, barely above a whisper. his heart thumped wildly in his chest, threatening to burst.
your face turns bright red before you look down at the ground flustered, avoiding eye contact with geto. “why would i get back with him when i have you, suguru?”
