A little tribute to the bathroom dance from a while ago that I polished up a bit, (I used screencaps from the movie as reference.)

Summary: Arthur married Y/N a year and a half ago. Now it’s time to meet her family in Missouri. Believing that building a life in Gotham had excised the pain of the past, Y/N accepts Mabel’s invitation to visit, unaware her little sister has hurdles of her own. What starts as a wish to connect becomes an exercise in old wounds. Y/N must choose to face them with Arthur - or alone.

Long A/N: In March of 2020, when I was finishing Watch What Happens and already mourning Arthur and his paralegal, the basic idea for this story started with a series of questions. How would Arthur react to a place that is the opposite of Gotham? Would he feel as apart as in the concrete jungle? What would it be like for him, someone who’s always felt alone in the universe, to suddenly have relatives?

And what about Y/N’s own trauma, that welt she’s hidden like a bad headline? I wanted the chance to explore that further, the dynamics of loyalty and trust. The messiness love leads to when all we want is to keep everything in its place. 

There’s plenty of gratitude to go around. To my dear readers who’ve enjoyed this series. The repetitive hum of tires on asphalt lulled him into a shallow, sorely needed snooze, a respite from the restlessness that’d nagged him since yesterday morning. They’d just crossed another state line, from Indiana to Illinois. Fourteen hours already spent in a wood paneled station wagon, courtesy of a traffic jam back in New Jersey. Only six more to go.
