Flat Top is one of the most interesting characters in starlight express. He’s a blur collar punk who talks a lot of shit as a defense mechanism, he’s desperate for validation from his peers, even if it means he’s hurting himself in the process. Sometimes it hurts his family too, and that’s when he truly realizes that what he’s doing isn’t good. He’s silly as hell. He’s just so fascinating to me, he really doesn’t have much of an impact on the story, and yet he’s been one of the few characters that hasn’t been hugely changed or replaced up until the revival. He does jack shit and still gets a redemption arc. I love him to pieces, and I’m so sad that he’s been boiled down into a caricature of a punk. Thank goodness for the actors who give him more of a personality than ”asshole with brick”
