maybe, as someone who has large, round glasses and is constantly said to look like a child because of it, I'm not a huge fan of this current trend where many decided to draw Imogen with specifically large, round glasses despite her not having any glasses because "it'll make her cute and adorable" while at the same time the broader fandom is treating Imogen like a smol bean who needs to be protected and coddled, as is a recurring trend with specifically Laura's characters

like, why haven't any of you decided to put glasses on Beau or Caleb way back when or something, i'm just naturally suspicious

Listen, you truly are not missing anything relevant going into Campaign 3 if you haven't seen Exandria Unlimited. However...it's only eight episodes. And if the only thing that's stopped you from getting into it is that's it's ~different~ from main campaign cr content, I'd encourage you to fight past that. Because you are missing out on a delightful, unique story that is worth watching. Plus some killer performances from Aimee, Robbie, Anjali, and Aabria.

Since C3 is starting soon, I'm gonn a shout an unpopular opinion into the void of your asks that I am literally to afraid to say: I do not like Caleb at all. His whole "saddest boy in the world" thing just did not work for me. Fair enough to people who love him, I just can't with him.

I'm quite unsure why you chose my ask for it, really. I am myself a mine of controversial opinions about many things, but that does not mean I hold nor entertain them all. I spend the majority of my time on Fjord, but I am fond of Caleb. He is in my top three in the Nein.

What you've expressed isn't even an unpopular opinion. It's a very common take, and one that I just.... I don't really have the energy to concisely put it into words, but it builds a deep sigh in my chest.

I don't have the interest or the alertness to unpack Caleb when so many have done it before me, but: it is intentional that he is difficult to sit with, and that is part of why I am fond of him.

Caleb is characterized as having an ugly response to intense, sustained trauma that caused him to be unable to trust himself. He is traumatized to a level that is almost inconceivable to understand from the outside, and the way that he handles that trauma and grief is not palpable at all.

Caleb is grieving. There is not a moment that we have known him without grief.

Caleb is specifically not meant to be likeable and isn't intended to be easy for an audience to engage with, quite the opposite on both counts. He's an exploration of a grief and a trauma so all-consuming and unfathomably soul-rending that it cannot be anything other than hard to look at, hard for even Caleb to bear.

I'm not saying you have to like him, just that... "saddest boy in the world" feels deeply unfair. And it's an unfairness that is too common for my liking.

I hope since there was specific mention of guest DMs and players that the Campaign 3 party will get to have their own Zahra and Kash. I loved all the guests they brought in for the Mighty Nein and their small arcs, but there wasn't (for covid reasons and not) really reoccurring guests. Mary Elizabeth and Will might not have been at the table a wild amount more than other guests, but their characters felt like family because they got to be part of the beginning, middle, and end of Vox Machina's story.
