Coming back to this blog to say that as someone who has studied basic Tudor history Dylan Mulvaney knows nothing about Anne Boleyn or anything she went through and it’s a disgrace that he was cast.
She was exploited for her femaleness, forced by a tyrannical and horrid man to bear children and when she produced a female child instead of a male one, he turned against her. She went through three miscarriages in an attempt to appease Henry, a traumatising event for women that men will never understand or experience.
She was falsely accused of incest, adultery, and treason and murdered for failing in her role as a female.

Referring to her as a ‘problematic woman’ as if she was a Regina George style drag-esque bitch rather than a highly intelligent woman who was deeply religious. Her only ‘problematic’ behaviour was her being strong-willed, which wasn’t at all like he’s implying.
Also the general idea of this ‘epic’ parallel is ridiculous. Dylan Mulvaney is a gay man who parades around in ridiculous and expensive outfits pretending to be a little girl, mutilating his body with hormones and surgery by choice while rolling around in makeup and frivolity pretending to be a victim. People’s negative opinions of him are accurate, as they boil down to thinking him an over-privileged, regressive, stupid person.
Peoples negative opinions on Anne Boleyn got her executed, got lies spread about her having physical deformities to indicate she’s evil, lies spread about her being sexually degenerate to devalue her as a whore who deserved to be killed. It’s not at all the same thing.
I hate the musical SIX in general because it’s dumb ahistorical fodder that doubles as feel good libfem bullshit, but this just proves ultimately that the show has never once had women in mind. I hope Dylan Mulvaney gets a kick in the pants back to irrelevancy and stops pretending to know what it is to be a woman.
