I have so, SO many facts about these creatures! Let's get KRAKEN!
The fact that octopuses have three hearts is more popular (two to circulate blood to the gills, and one to the rest of the body), but I find it BASS-SCINATING that they technically have nine brains! three-fifths of an octopus's neurons are located in their arms, having a brain for beach limb, which allows them to move each of them fin-dependently! You cod literally say that each of an octopus's arm has a mind of it's own! Now that's tenta-cool! Haha!
Because of this, if you cut off one of an octopus's tentacles, it would be able to live as it did before when it was still attached! Only, it'd be unable to eat.. So eventually, it would die of a lack of nutrients.
Speaking of tentacles, each sucker on the tentacle of an octopus has taste buds as well as touch reef-ceptors! Imagine being able to taste with your fingers... yuck!
It's whale-known that octopuses can change color to blend in with their environment. The cells in their body called chromatophores allow them to change color and even their own texture!
Octopuses are SUPER smart and have a lot of pearl-sonality! They're known to use tools, open containers, and even play with toys like children would!
ALL species of octopus are venomous.. Boat, only the blue-ringed octopus has enough venom to be deadly to humans!
An octopus's defense mechanism of shooting ink isn't neces-sea-rily to blind predators, but to paralyze its senses of smell and taste! Most sea creatures aren't very reliant on their eyesight any-waves, since not very much light beach-es the depths where octopodes live! (Also, octopodes is another correct plural of octopus! And octopi is NOT valid. Thanks, Brightney!)
Deep in the ocean where octopuses live, having iron-based hemoglobin (the protein in blood cells that transports oxygen!) is not very ef-fish-cient. While iron-based hemoglobin makes blood red, copper, which is the base for octopus hemoglobin, makes it BLUE! Octopodes have blue blood!
And FIN-ally, because octopuses have no bones, they're able to fit through ANY space larger than their beak, which is the only hard part of their body!
There are more facts I could tell about octopodes... Boat, this is getting a little long... Guess I got a little ahead of my-shell-f!
Hope this ten-tickles your fancy! Haha!
