”Oh! I was borrowing that from Trinity, she recommended that artist about a month ago! Put on the b-side, I like that one more.”

Frank obliged, lifting the cover of their turntable and gently taking out the record and setting it down. Before he moved the needle, he turned the cover and traced his finger gently over the song title. “Best Guess.”

Mel nodded. “It’s a good song. Slow and quiet, but still manages to be interesting.”

”Okay then,” he nodded, and moved the needle over the record and dropped it gently. He listened as the music faded in, and a warm female voice started singing. He made a few short paces over to Mel, and held out his hand. “Dance with me?”

”You don’t even know if the song is danceable," Mel huffed. Frank rolled his eyes dramatically, gesturing her forward with his fingers.

”Any song is danceable,” he replied as she laid her hand in his and stood. “Anything is with you.”

Mel waved off his comment, but he could see a blush forming at the tips of her ears. He pulled her in gently by the arm until they were touching foreheads, her arms resting on his shoulders as he placed his hands on her waist. ”Hi,” he said.

”Hey,” she responded, eyes fluttering shut as they swayed to the music. “I’ve missed you.”

”I missed you too,” he confided, pulling away for a moment to plant a kiss on her temple. “Our shifts never line up anymore.”

“I’m excited to spend the morning with you,” she said. “We can do this all day, if you wanted to.”

“Not all day, you have dinner plans,” he reminded her, moving away to raise an arm so Mel could twirl around before meeting him back in his arms. It was always his favorite part of their dancing, watching her spin around in whatever she was wearing at the time. It was so simple, and yet something was so domestic about it that Frank struggled to not go into his room and grab the little black box hidden in his drawer and sink down onto his knee right there. Still, he thought of the plans he had worked so hard for the very next day and continued swaying with her, one hand traveling up to her hair as he started gently smoothing it out.

Mel sighed, content, and as the song ended, Frank met her halfway to gently press his lips against hers. There was nothing heated, nothing burning or forceful in the kiss, just a soft, gentle vow of his love to her. When they pulled away, Mel began to yawn softly as Frank gently put the record away. “You tired?” Frank asked, and when she replied by nodding slowly, he smiled softly at her. “Get some sleep, then. I’ll be right in, just gonna clean up in here a bit so we don’t have to tomorrow.”

”Are you sure?” Mel replied softly. “I feel bad making you clean up by yourself.”

”You aren’t making me do anything, Mel,” Frank sighed, coming over to where she was standing and placing a hand against her cheek. “I want to spend time with you tomorrow, so I’m doing this now while you sleep. Go get some rest, okay?”
