Hakea lehmanniana

Hakea lehmanniana is another shrub from the winter-rainfall part of South Africa, occurring in the southwestern corner of Western Australia. It is a rounded shrub to 6 feet high (1.8 m), with needle-like gray green leaves. It is known as the “blue hakea”, with the flower color ranging from distinctly blue to gray-blue or mauve. Our plant is a subtle gray-blue color, but delightful upon close examination.

Cephalophyllum pillansii

February is a terrific month for plants in the genus Cephalophyllum (in the Northern Hemisphere - they flower at the opposite time of year in their native South Africa, where February comes in summer). Most of the species come from the winter-rainfall region in western South Africa and southwestern Namibia, and the plant pictured is from near Springbok.
