Not a Choir, Nor Girls, Dom describes Girl Choir, as "three of Charlottesville's most estimable rawk veterans get together to jam mod-punk anthems with more energy than dudes half their age...with more hooks than a cane factory" I (Liz) was able to catch them at their debut at last year's Dump show, and was blown away by the musicianship of these noisy veterans of pop punk: Maynard Sipe, Matt Datesman, and Eddie Jetlag. If they taught punk school, I would take some drum lessons.

This year’s Architecture Week will be a new beginning for our chapter.

The Charlottesville Better Business Challenge asked me to join their panel last week to talk about my Consumables and Waste Reduction Plan at VMDO.  Thanks to Terri Kent for pulling this disccusion together for local businesses in the Challenge.

Our committee has been hard at work raising funds and getting the word out about the upcoming screening.  *Ed Bruske allows us to take a moment of his time and give us this interview.

As a precursor to AIA CV’s celebration of Architecture Week, 5 architects paired up with New City Arts to creatively consider the city in which we live. A handful of Haven guests re-imagined Charlottesville bike lanes, a park, a community center, and public transportation system. Guests and architects translated drawings, sketches, and writings into drafts and layouts. The work on display (including photographs of the design charrette) exhibits the participants’ take on our everyday life together.

Just received news that I have earned my platinum belt for UVA’s College at Wise Science Building.  This is UVA’s first LEED Platinum Building (and VMDO's), I am so proud of our team to accomplish such a feat on an addition and renovation of an existing building.  On to the next one…

The project centers on a walking expedition of the neighborhoods and the environs of Charlottesville, during which participants will learn to use close observation and creative expression as a means of understanding spaces, places, and the stories that enrich them. Throughout the StoryLine walk, four teams of young people and artist mentors will gather information and ideas about their neighborhoods through personal interviews, poetry, sketching, photography, journaling and more. The project will culminate with a collaborative mural on the Community Chalkboard illustrating the participants’ layered visions of their StoryLine walk and the areas it explored.
