Violin string dreams.
Hail and Hallowed Hunting my friends and fellow witches. I meant to post this yesterday but things got a bit hectic because I didn’t have as much time as I thought I was going to to work with my group. So, in the end, I had to save it for today, but I still wanted to share it. It was just a little puzzle piece from one of my dreams that I don’t want to forget. Last night, in my dreaming, I was gifted a violin. I was handed one, a deep brown with a reddish undertone and brought it up to test the length, though it already felt like the fit wasn't quite right. However, as I tilted my head to rest my chin against it I glanced another instrument from the corner of my eye. It was black and gleaming, with swirling silver wood grain, rippling across it, almost blending with the tight strings. The man who had handed me the first violin saw me looking at the second and he said, “Ah, that one would suit you more, I think.” He lifted it up with its bow and handed it to me, taking the first one away. And he was right, the fit was perfect, the weight of it, the resounding sound of the strings when plucked. I remember being concerned. “I've heard that the sound when a person first starts learning to play is often grating.” I knew it was difficult when beginning and I knew I had never played before. But he told me not to worry, that it would be fine, and we walked into another room so he could teach me how to play. Once inside that room, however, something shifted. The instrument he was instructing me to play was not a violin. It was a bit like one, a string instrument with tuning keys, but it was longer and laid almost flat. And the angle of it had the tuning keys at the lower end instead of up near the hands. And his fingers were covered by metal picks or claws on one hand and metal picks on his middle knuckles of the other. He would slide his knuckles along the strings with the one while plucking the strings with the fingers of the other. The sound it produced was harrowing, hauntingly beautiful. I had never heard such a sound. I also had no idea how to replicate it. Before the dream dissolved into something else, I stated these concerns and the man assured me that I could do it. I just had to work at it. And then I drifted into a completely separate and completely normal dream.
