Like Bens abdominal muscle walls would have more marigold concentrated there to open a portal for the horror. Viktors ears and brain also have more marigold for his powers to manifest, which explains why drugs work against them, he just needed a drug that passes the blood brain barrier and it "blocks" the marigold plus his emotions.

Their father didn't pull the trigger, but he made them run head first to stop the loaded gun. It was his negligence and abuse that ultimately killed Ben.

Retconning it, so he actually did pull the trigger, loses all subtlety. It's no longer a consequence of his abuse. It becomes an action in and of itself. It would be as if Reginald had literally sent Five away instead of driving him to leave.

And once again, it undermines Reginald's power more than it reinforcing it.

Sparrow!Reginald directly killing Luther and Klaus isn't as bad because, in his eyes, he isn't their father. He really didn't know them, and it was just getting them out of the way. He was the more brutal version of Hargreeves, and it was a means to an end.

With Umbrella!Hargreeves, his power is not from brutality. It's his manipulations and emotional abuse. He tries to appear in control . And the twisted part of him is he really did care for the Umbrellas in his own way. He had held sentimentality towards them, but it wasn't enough to stop his actions.
