Great question, anon! I've asked myself the same thing.

I think that from the start it was too glittery to be all gold for Plutarch. After probably digging around sources, he finds District 13. He wished for an army, an army shows up. He learns Coin is their leader -- could he have established an in-person meeting? I wonder how. Whenever the first talk happened, I think Plutarch figured her out. He must have asked himself "what's her goal here?". She shows up, willing to give him access to her army, accepting his funding, willing to overthrow Snow, never lost a kid for the games and marketing herself as the next best alternative out of what, kindness of pure heart?

Plutarch saw right through it, he just had to go with it because she was still the best chance at getting Snow out and basically, well, I suppose how to stop Coin was for later, if it all went according to plan. He was gambling when he made the alliance and he knew it was a gamble, anything would have been a gamble.

So from the get going I think their dynamic is a 3D chess match Machiavelli would have paid 100€ to watch. While he's measuring each of his steps, she's trying to figure out what are Plutarch's intentions here. From her perspective, what is this guy after? People to fight for his cause so once Snow is out, Plutarch could be president? But she wants to be president and she needs his money and Capitol expertise. I think the plan was to get rid of Plutarch after the presidential speech, after the new games are decided. I think there's a visual reason why he's not on the stage next to her during the speech. From his side, he figured out her unsaid plan, correctly guesses he may end up murdered at some point, acts submissive so not to threat her.

I don't like it as a romantic ship either because I think it makes it very uncomfortable from Coin's perspective. She has a tribal response to Capitolites and she would all of a sudden have the most intimate act with the wealthiest Capitolite in living history? Maybe she could wrap her head around the fact it would be for manipulation but how is that needed? She leads the 13 army, she has Plutarch in her hand consequently. She's essential to the cause. Wouldn't fucking open a possibility to Plutarch feel like he's more powerful than he is, from Coin's point of view? Too close, too risky. I definitely see her with a 13 fuckboy because that's just easier. No risk of oversharing caught off guard, can take her mind off completely and doesn't give him the satisfaction, keeps him at bay, cautious. That would be the most intelligent strategy.

I see how abstractally there's the "keep your enemies closer" yada yada but in practical terms how does that work? I just think for a fandom that already has a major issue with sex positivity (well, with sex as a fact), I have no intention of adding to that with writing sex = manipulation. For personal reasons, I feel very uncomfortable with the idea of using sex to manipulate one another and fucking someone who hates you. I leave that to Caesar Flickerman and Claudius Templesmith. I can see flirting, sure, but that's calculated and enough for what both are trying to achieve. I also think Plutarch got too far and dedicated his entire life to this one goal not to be sexually manipulated and/or abused.

They explored the effects of PTSD that he would suffer and realistically dealt with how it would affect him mentally to be not allowed to make choices, to be mentally and psychologically abused to that extent and how he would struggle to adjust once he was safe. They even dug into the uglier realities of torture as it exists in real life, showing Bucky as a survivor of sexual violence

Also, lots of fanfics portrayed Bucky as being physically disabled after his time as the Winter Soldier. Like, there were multiple fics I read where he has a feeding tube that described that with realism, and several more where he has various GI tract difficulties after being tube-fed throughout his stint as a living weapon. Multiple fics that describe him having seizures, at least two fics where he is addicted to heroin and suffers withdrawals from that, also fics where the arm is removed and he has to adjust to life as an amputee

And then, when you return to canon, of course they're not interested in the long-term mental and physical effects of The Horrors at all, except for a little bit of Hollywood PTSD.

when there are just dozens of silent likes on a post it gets lonely. it’s discouraging. i know more than a few friends who don’t even want to post on tumblr anymore because the new norm seems to be liking a post and never adding your own thoughts for the artist to see.

Plutarch leads me down a long, arched hallway lined with life-sized paintings of haughty people in fine, old-fashioned clothes. Each holds an object - a scale, a harp, a ruby-studded cup that seems meant to define them.

That is a BAD ship! At this point, they are just shipping two people, so Wyatt and Maysilee have someone! Like, have they read the same book I did?? bc in the book I read...Maysilee is a lesbian. Like I can only see her as a girl kisser, NO OTHER WAY! She just has that vibe, and I KNOW I'm not alone on this one. Another reason Wysilee is a terrible ship is that they don't really interact romantically... like I genuinely want someone to name me an example bc as far as I remember, they only interact as teammates and maybe friends. I have never once thought they would be cute together, and frankly, I think the shippers are just shipping because they want to see those characters in a ship, then they are the last ones left in the loose cannons gang.

I'm just sitting here writing some fanfiction when I get to the scene in District 8. I have read and listened to the audio recording of Mockingjay so many times, I don't think I could come up with an accurate enough number.

I completely forgot, that when they land in 8 a second hovercraft lands with medical supplies and six medics. I don't remember anything about them getting back on the hovercraft after the bombing, but Coin would have seen how desperately Katniss wanted to help the wounded...known that Katniss wanted to rush to their aid.

It's like she knew, based on previous actions, that Katniss would try to save those injured. It was all recorded. And after all, I'm sure Coin knew where Katniss was or at least had some very strong suspicion that Katniss would be nearing the mansion by this point.

She obviously wanted to put Prim in harms way...could she have been hoping that Katniss would have gotten caught up in the bombing? I think it's very possible. We know the woman was very calculating. As movie Plutarch says, "moves and countermoves."

I don't know, maybe this is just an early morning rant from a sleep deprived writer, butttt...it sure would make sense if Coin had that flicker of intent as well.

This storyline is so engaging i can't wait to read the 2nd book.
