I wish from the depths of my soul that all the fake beta reading and editing scammers would get electrocuted through their keyboards every time they spew out a comment with their bullshit.

For my people who don't know how common this is: I've gotten three in the last month and I'm not even that active on here. Block and Report is your friend. Use it liberally.

General ways to tell if it's a scammer (not hard and fast rules, but the more of these you can tick off, the likelier it is to be a scam):

ZERO connection to you. No mutuals, no previous interactions between you and them.

Asks to beta/edit for you (especially after the above or very soon after first interacting with you)

Asks you to do something out of your usual content (poetry when you're not a poet, drawing when you're not an artist, etc).

Asks you to talk to them on another platform or through another program

Claims they have work for you either through a company or client

Replies to your posts with an unrelated request.

When it doubt, block. When you're sure, block and report.
