While making Kurasame sound like a proper military commander eludes me, his exchanges with the kids are as great as always.
「礼儀がなってないな。」He says to Ace, which means, “You really have no manners, do you.” He follows this by asking whether the External Bureau taught them any of that.
『礼儀』という概念をよく知らないエースは、その言葉に戸惑った。The narration proceeds to explain that Ace is perplexed by his words, because “didn’t really know the concept of ‘manners’ too well”.
Then there’s the fact that, out of everyone aside from Rem and Machina, only Queen, Trey, and Deuce actually use keigo/speak politely.
Kurasame then says: 「まぁいい。私が諸君らに期待するものは人間性ではない。」 Which means something like: “Well, it doesn’t matter. What I expect from all of you is not humanity (but ability and results).”
人間性 is indeed humanity or human nature, but it felt strange to type “I don’t expect humanity out of you” haha. Still, I can’t think of a better way to word it.
(yes, I live!)
