Azriel: 🫥?!?!?

When in canon, Az is nothing but calm, polite, sophisticated and mature around the girl he canonically is obsessed with (Elain). He adresses her calmly and politely, he is stable and secure when he always reaches out his hands. He listens calmly and respectfully when she speaks. He stands up for her at the dinner table. He's just acted maturely and calmly whenever we've seen him actually interact with Elain, who is the one he is canonically obsessed with. She's his crush, and he acts nothing like Gwynriel's fanon Az acts around a crush.

They're going to absolutely despise canon Az in Acotar 6-8. And I'm so here for it. Sjm wrote him as mature, polite, calm, with a dry and dark sense of humour,as a gentleman and also has lots of dirty thoughts about his crush and fantasizes about pleasuring her. I mean, finally, we get a male MC who is not juvenile and bombastic but kinda real and interesting and a little dark but soft at the same time.

There is no awkward, fumbling, idiotic Azriel. That's some other character that belongs in a bad YA book.

I HATE their Azriel. Canon Azriel is meh. But their version of Azriel? I would actually rather swallow bleach then read about such an idiot.

Their interpretation of Azriel:

He’s entitled, only cares abour lust, goes after unavailable women, he’s possesive, has anger issues, white-knight syndrome, dubious, stupid, gullible and as you mentioned doesn’t know how to act around a girl, he needs the perfect girl boss Gwyn to put him in his place and pull him out of his shell.

This is nothing like Canon Azriel and Thank God for that.

They only hate Azriel now because he wants Elain. If he didn’t want Elain, if she wasn’t the subject of his desire - they would love his bonus chapter. If he had felt this way towards Gwyn? They would love him.

But because its boring Elain, they have to find a million ways to make him seem horrible when even in that bonus, he was still respectful.

Making their LI tip their head back and laugh

All Elain wants for someone to look deeper than her pretty face. To see the real her. Her character.

Her mother? Only saw her pretty face and how to use it

The young girls from her childhood? They saw her pretty face and hated her because of it.

Graysen? Even tho he was with her the minute she turned to fae it all vanished. He could only see "what" she is rather than "who" she is.

Lucien? It goes the same way. He simply doesnt care about "who" Elain is as a person but "what" she is to him—mate. So he is only doing what a mate should...not someone who is interested in Elain should. And Elain notices that.

Azriel on the other hand...he listens to her. He sees her. He understand her. This is literally the most important part of it. To see deeper than the pretty face or what she is. Azriel understand who she is as a person and doesnt judge her for it or act according to please it. As Feyre said in acowar:

It made sense, I supposed, that Azriel alone had listened to her. The male who heard things others could not … Perhaps he, too, had suffered as Elain had before he understood what gift he possessed.

Their love has never felt temporary to me.

It has always felt like something quietly growing beneath the surface, waiting for the moment neither of them can pretend anymore.

One day, Elain will grow tired of convincing herself that walking away is the right thing to do. She’ll stop choosing everyone else’s expectations over her own heart. She’ll stop pretending that what she feels for Azriel isn’t real.

Because a love like theirs was never meant to stay hidden.

It’s too big to disappear.

Too gentle to be forgotten.

Too pure to be denied.

Some loves simply refuse to fade, no matter how hard you try to bury them.

I can’t wait for the day they stop fighting what has always been there and finally choose each other—not because anyone tells them they should, but because it’s what they both truly want.

A love this beautiful deserves to be chosen.

This is in no universe, in no romance novel a sign of an endgame relationship. Period.

You will never see an author write a romance with a fmc shrinking into herself around her love interest.

That “bond” makes Elain extremely uncomfortable and I think its because its not real. I think Elriel has a real mating bond and both Elain and Azriel can feel and smell their bond being messed with. Thats why Elain is so awkard and weird around Lucien, why Azriel can’t stand the smell of the Elucien “bond” and why hes not sleeping and why hes feels so uncomfortable, as we see in his bonus chapter.

SJM literally have us this in Elriel and Eluciens last scene together.

“Most females die, the babes with them. There’s no way for magic to help, short of fracturing a female’s pelvis to widen it for the birthing. Which might kill the babe anyway.” “Feyre is going to die?” Her words were a whisper. For a heartbeat, every bit of spite, of anger, of bitterness faded away. Pure, clear panic replaced it.

then why the fuck is it such an issue for elriel?

you don’t have to like the elriel ship, but let’s not make up bullshit like, “Sarah wrote it that way for a reason!” when trying to drag gwyn into this hurtful and gross mess..

sarah wrote gwyn having SLIGHTLY more pliant bones because it helps with her training. it LITERALLY says it right after:

“My grandmother was a river-nymph who seduced a High Fae male from the Autumn Court. So I’m a quarter nymph, but it’s enough for this.” Gwyn gestured to her large eyes—blue so clear it could have been the shallow sea—and her lithe body. “My bones are slightly more pliant than ordinary High Fae’s, but who cares about that?” Perhaps that was why Gwyn was so good at the balancing and movement. 29

sarah wrote nessian being endgame despite knowing the risks WAY earlier on..

and even after finding out the risks, it didn’t stop feyre and rhys from still being endgame..

and even now, a little power of nesta’s remains AND she has the knowledge in a court of silver flames, ch. 78. so when elain and azriel are endgame, and should elain decide to want to have children (a choice that will be made with her partner), nesta is there to help! but a friendly reminder that children aren’t the be all and end all for a relationship to work!

So Cassian asked, “Is your magic … The power’s really gone?” The brisk spring wind whipped her golden-brown hair across her face. “I gave it back to the Cauldron in exchange for the knowledge of how to save them.” She swallowed. “But a little remains. So obviously, the elucien bond is nature picked wrong and I think Elain will choose to be with Azriel of her own free will (love will trump the mating bond) and reject the bond with Lucien. So after already choosing Azriel and love over a mating bond that is when it will be revealed that Elain and Azriel are 'true' mates.
