Lake Tanganyika is an African Great Lake. It is estimated to be the second largest freshwater lake in the world by volume, and the second deepest,

Strange things happen there. It is said that the cardinal winds meet on the mulalambo, and that none dominates. Perilous waterspouts may result. Turtles the size of basins are also found there, as are immense snakes.

One fearsome serpent is said to be so big it can swallow whole pirogues, and another  has spines down its back and the head of a snake but the tail of a fish. It has never been caught.

Other unusual fish are found on the back of lake tanganyika, many of them extraordinarily large, it is said. One is so utterly perverse that it will collect the lines of men fishing from several pirogues and then dive deep into the lake, pulling the men, their gear, and their craft to sure destruction.
