Many people keep talking about his characters poor writing but the problem was not that Ian daegun's character writing was actually what was lacking. If they explored Ian daegun's character motivations well, the audience would have seen the contrast with PM min as well as he was basically daegun's only trusted friend apart from daegun's brother

The production crew of perfect crown really had a huge problem. The background story was in no way fluffy at all. It was giving Red Sleeve level saeguk drama yet it seemed they were hired to make a fluffy rom com out of that. In that context, I'm not mad at the outcome. They really tried to make it as light as possible while giving plot

Just read the web novel and let me tell you prime minister min's rosary was not strong enough to handle what that man was going through fr fr. Now that we're shown a new flash back of a part of Ian daegun and his brother's relationship, the earlier writing of the show shines brighter for me. Huiju talking about Ian saying marrying for love was his "life long dream or something like that" was actually a brilliant add on. One thing about the grand prince Ian is that while he doesn't lie, he's still very strategic. After watching his brother go through all that ,marrying for love really was something he was determined to do in order to be different. Every conflicted emotion and actions he had regarding his family's situation was something only a lover could have understood. This also means choosing huiju was more than just fulfilling a long term crush for him, he was placing his most expensive bet yet: his future, on the woman of his dreams. And he placed that bet after meeting her adult self just once. Very swoon worthy yet still mature writing
