I canβt believe some systems have less than 100 headmates like how does that work?? How do you guys live like that what???? I think Iβd die if I had even less than 200 headmates thats fucking crazy how do you handle that?? And less than 50 is even crazier. Omg your headcount is 4?? What?? I have NO idea how you guys can work like that itβs wiiiillddd youre wild and crazy and an enigma to me I need to study you and ask how you can even function itβs so weird youβre weird. Iβm gonna treat youas my study subject because youβre weird.
I wish there was more room for headcanons and character discussion that weren't the Commonly Accepted type of queer/neurodivergent.
I want characters with the less-talked-about disorders, not just autism/ADHD or Cluster B personality disorders or the most known schizospec disorders. I want straight queer characters, I want nonbinary characters who are agender or androgynous and not shoved into a binary box for shipping reasons, I want cis GNC characters, I want women who use he/him and men who use she/her and aren't immediately assumed to be trans when talking about them. I want aroaces who are not shipped with anyone. I want characters to have a named disability with more than vague "disabled". I want to talk about a character being intersex with a specific variation and not have it be treated as Spicier Perisex. Etc.
my biggest pet peeve is when people headcanon (canon, explicitly stated) crossdressers as transgender. LIKE STOP!!!! GENDER NONCONFORMITY IS ALSO IMPORTANT QUEER REP!!!!
excellent suggestion i just started it. kashima hasn't shown up yet but nozaki is extremely and visibly autistic, which is awesome
kashima also looks very cute based on what i saw on google images! we've got the same build and i can see myself in him a lot. he's got short hair and looks really good in a skirt, super stylish! i feel very very refreshed and represented
there also seems to be a wider theme of femininity in guys as well, given that nozaki uses such a feminine penname while writing girlish manga. yea i think the show rocks thank you prev
this might sound shitty and conservative of me but i much prefer subtle & casual queerness like this in media aimed at everyone vs.. something like heartstopper. it makes me feel unremarkable and like i can exist in society the same as everyone else. same for disability rep as well
that's what i like about anime ngl. in all the anime i've watched the characters aren't usually like "i'm transgender. i am a transgender woman. i was not born biologically female because i am transgender." it's usually like, shown to be the case; or maybe one of the other main characters will mention off the cuff how she had a sex change. it never feels heavy handed and to me personally, it seems far more representative of what my life is like
like obviously the point of heartstopper is to be LOUD about queerness. there's a place for that too. i just don't personally look to media like that if i'm looking to feel seen as an unremarkable, casual part of society. i like to see myself represented in media that isn't specifically aimed at queers, i like to see myself in media that everyone will consume without batting an eyelid
"I don't support the radqueer ideology because they support taboo fiction, transids and paraphilias" β
"I don't support the radqueer ideology because their ideology is inherently built on accepting people of all contact stances and the community blurs the lines of consent, contact and harm so much that it hurts the people participating in it." β
I should probably make it clear that this post is made by an ex radqueer who spent a very long time in the community. Every hateful shit you say about radqueers, I can also see them.

People can kin whatever characters they want but I do sometimes question why it's always the Asian characters with heavy cultural elements & stories that get the loudest "OMG HE'S SO ME IRL WE ARE THE SAME PERSON" from non-Asian people
There's so much orientalism in danmei fandoms. It's assigning white actors to characters, it's writing modern aus in the US and making the characters white, it's ignoring the cultural context (especially in βanalysisβ), it's not bothering to learn how to read pinyin, it's spreading misinformation about queer rights in PRC, it's drawing characters in βtraditionalβ outfits that don't resemble hanfu in any way (even worse, randomly putting them in other East Asian traditional clothing), it's talking over Chinese and other East Asian people, it's writing βit's so xyz ship/characterβ under every video made by East Asians (I recently saw comments of a hairstyle tutorial flooded with Wei Wuxian, because the guy who made it used a red ribbon...), it's fetishizing East Asian gays and so much more... I stopped engaging with Western danmei fandoms, especially MXTX fandoms because of that. Of course there are some great people there, but from my experience at least solid 3/5 are orientalist and sinophobic.
this is orientalism.

my petty gripe about anachronism in historical/fantasy/spec-fic worlds is attraction language.
Weβve all heard the βshould you use modern queer labels or notβ argument but honestly even when people go βtrue, they wouldnβt use the labels βaromanticβ or βasexual,ββ so often the characters describe their experiences as βI never felt romantic attractionβ or βI donβt feel attracted to anyoneβ in ways that makes me go. You are stilllllll thinking about this in an extraordinarily modern online way. That 19th century steampunk detective man will NOT be angsting about having never felt romantic attraction, he would be angsting about being unable to feel moved by the beauty or charm of a woman, or something. And I do think that βattractivenessβ language is different from the identity-level idea of experiencing attractionβSherlock Holmes does not talk about not experiencing attraction, but when Watson says βWhat a very attractive woman!β Holmes responds βIs she? I did not observe.β (And then Watson calls him an inhuman automaton and calculating-machine and Holmes calls Watsonβs judgement biased). Never swayed by the attractiveness of a man or woman, never desirous of marriage, never charmed by the delights of love, all of these feel like some of the variety of ways that someone in this milieu might describe an ace- or aro-spectrum identity more than βnever felt attractionβ does. Mostly because, like the terms for aromantic and asexual themselves, nailing down an exclusively attraction-based definition of a-spec identities is a relatively new and extremely post-AVEN thing. And yet in fiction everybody knows to articulate their experience as feeling sexual/romantic attraction. And I always want to go nooo how would THIS character think about it?? Not how you think this character SHOULD think about it, how would THIS person in THIS context articulate their feelings?
Does your system have anyone who's alloace (asexual and not aromantic)?

starting a new fuck/marry/kill called aro/crack/attack where you take three characters and decide who you're making aromantic, whose egg you're cracking, and who you're doing grievous bodily harm

AUGH FUCK I'M BEING ROTATED
i must say, i am a huge fan of when a book is in the middle of a very exciting plot containing many interesting problems when out of nowhere for a few pages it's like, "hey by the way, real quick, here's a detailed explanation of the city's water filtration system! i'm telling you this for a reason and you should worry about it. anyway! haha okay back to the plot" and you just get to be Scared for a while
Think we should bring back REG as a term. It stands for Reactionary Exclusionary Gatekeeper. It's why every round of exclusionary discourse that denies a specific groups' oppression and places in the community follows the same rhetoric because regs are regs are regs. Deny the group faces any specific oppression for their identity, attack any and all vocabulary so they can't discuss it, say what they do face is really just misogyny/homophobia/transphobia, say they're incapable of recognizing their own experiences, say they're just desperate to be oppressed, and really oppressed the real queer people. Rinse repeate. Fall silent once the pendulum swings towards acceptance until a new target reveals itself.
Regs are regs are regs.

u ever get a new follower and think. well this isnt gonna last
So this is not a plea for money. This is something that surprised me, and chatting with people on discord, they were unaware of as well.
Discovered last year I couldnβt look at my 2015 MacBook Air without it triggering nausea and migraines, and figured the screen died. Have been getting by on my phone, but concluded I really need a laptop again.
Saved up, realised I could afford a brand new MacBook Neo, and got one.
-And I couldnβt spend more than five minutes looking at the screen without massive eye strain, nausea, vertigo, and if I pushed it, I-need-to-lie-down-in-a-dark-room-for-hours migraines.
Looking up MacBook and Eyestrain explained what is going on. The liquid retina displays that Apple currently has uses Pulse Width Modulation or PWM. In order to give the screens a deeper depth of colour and contrast, PWM flickers between several hundred to thousand times a second.
And there is currently no way to turn it off. There are settings and apps to reduce it, but there is no way to stop the screen from flickering. Checked Apple forums, called Apple Support, and the time I could look at the screen kept shrinking. Got the laptop Tuesday, returned it Friday, today is Sunday and Iβm still dealing with a vertigo migraine.
For MacBooks, it seems to vary on the computer model and the software it uses. In retrospect, the issue with my MacBook Air started after a major software update.
And itβs not just an Apple thing. Current Windows and Android screens do the same thing. Thereβs even a Reddit for people who are sensitive to PWM flickers to help find computers and screens that wonβt trigger eyestrain and headaches.
So, yeah. This week has been a learning experience. But for those who are prone to headaches and migraines, this may be something to be aware of, cause I was not.
