The Weird Demon

So, as a writer in the Mark & Jack community, I’ve been thinking about making something like this for a while. I’ve met so many talented writers in this community and read some phenomenal fics. However, not a lot of writers get as much appreciation as some other parts of the community. I think there are a few reasons for this:

1. Mark and Jack can’t reblog or like writing. If they do, people will assume that it’s canon and it will cause a whole big mess.

2. It’s not as easy to take in. I’m not trying to call people lazy–it’s definitely true that it’s easier to look at a piece of art and reblog it than to read an entire story. 

3. People associate fanfiction with purely shipping and gross smut stuff, and because of that, it’s become a bit taboo. This simply is not always the case. There is plenty of good fanfiction that does not involve shipping. 

However, people spend hours on these stories. They pour their hearts into the things that they write. Writers put just as much time into their work as artists and editors do. It sucks that I don’t see written work get as much attention in this community as other things do.

You can put short stories, full-length fics, poetry, even theories that you spent a long time writing and planning out.

I’m not sure if something like this has been done before, but I’m doing it anyways. This is to celebrate the people in this community who put a lot of work into writing fics for the egos and such, and do it for people in the community to enjoy.

Hopefully, this will be a good way to make friends and also give some writers in the community the appreciation they deserve. It’s also just meant to be a fun little thing to help us bond. Please try to keep the tags positive and fun for everyone.

People aren’t reblogging content. Every content creator knows the struggle of looking at your notes and finding at least two times as many likes as reblogs, more often three or four times as many. 

Why do people not reblog? Is it because they don’t care enough? Is it because they can’t be bothered? Is it because they just don’t think it matters? Who knows, really, but I’m getting sick of it. And I know I’m not the only one. 

I’ve been sitting on this idea for a while because I’m not sure how well it’ll work, but discussion over at @jse-writing-community has decided me. It’s time for a boycott. 

What I propose is that the week of 18th - 25th of February we post no content. No art, no stories, no edits - nothing for a week. Let your followers know why you’re doing this, let them know how much reblogs and comments mean to us and then show them how much they’d miss us. 

People get discouraged because of lack of reblogs, discouraged to the point of considering deleting their blogs. Why don’t we do something about it? Why don’t we show our consumers that their interaction means everything, their interaction is what keeps us going? Why don’t we remind our consumers that they appreciate our content and that we’re making it for free? 

We’re being taken for granted, guys. You make amazing art. Your edits are beautiful! Your stories are masterpieces! 

And consumers - if you read this, please think about how much a reblog means to us. Please realise that to a content creator a like just means you’ve seen it - a reblog means you’ve liked it. Please realise that we do this for free, and that your reblogs and comments and interactions are what keep us going. Please realise that a reblog or a comment could mean the difference between giving up on creating or continuing to make amazing stuff.

Let’s pull together and do this, yeah? Let’s stop being taken for granted!
