STEVE KNEW IT WAS WEIRD,  but it was coincidence. he had been an idiot, trying to stretch his gas tank as much as possible since pay day was around the corner. but of course, he flew too close to the sun and had abandoned ship a few blocks earlier. as he carried the small red gas can that he had plucked from his trunk, he knew it looked like he was following her. she’d turn the same directions he needed to go to get to the nearest station, and   OF COURSE  ,   she eventually called him out on it.

his sneakers lessened their taps on the pavement, a wince wrinkling his nose and brow.   “  IT’S NOT WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE,  ”   he assured quickly.  “  i’m just trying to get to the station to fill up some gas.  my car’s about five blocks back  ––  in the  WATSON’S  parking lot.  you know, the grocery store?  i know it looks weird at this time of night, so keep the pepper spray to a minimum …  ”

          the sound of the somewhat familiar voice hitting her gives her a sense of relief, and she manages a soft, breathy sigh of a laugh before she finally stops and turns on heel. he’d always been a prominent figure of the town, just a year or two younger than her but enigmatic like he’d been there forever. and then compared to her, a hermit disguised as a drifter; the one nobody ever even knew was around. and now that the lab was long gone, the air of safety had slowly begun to return. maybe it was due time that nyx started to behave a bit more... neighborly.

          ❛ you’re the HARRINGTON boy, aren’t you? ❜   she muses gently, a soft smile accompanying the gentle, drawling voice that comes forth.   ❛ the one with the lovely hair who looks out for those children. come - walk with me. i’m sure we could both use the company. ❜

He shouldn’t be surprised to see her, but when that feeling takes over him and wraps around him like an opaque veil, he always momentarily startles before reminding himself that it’s just Nyx. And once that moment passes he feels a warmth under the chill and can feel his smile widen in her presence. It’s not hard to bask in her affections—he might be one of the few who truly did—so it was hard not to miss her at times. Her words, however, had his smile soften, a small thing full of love and adoration. 

“ Aw, stop it. You’re gonna make me blush. I have a reputation to uphold, you know, ”   he joked, running his fingers through his hair and feeling his wings ruffle under his shirt happily.   “ Miss you, ya’ know. Feel like we need a better way at communicating. These things called cellphones exist, Nyx. Think you should invest in one,”   he teases without spite, finally extending an arm out towards her.

“ In the meantime, I think we can compensate with a hug, yeah? ”

          nyx gives a gentle smile; it was often and typical that she was feared or avoided by the ones she once lived among, but he was always different. never once a moment fright or ire was felt from him, instead the love and kindness and warmth he oft showed all, extended to her as easy as the sunrise. one of few gods among her that made her truly feel as if she didn’t need to escape to the earth for acceptance.

          ❛ of course, my dear thing, ❜   she replies with a gentle smile, and she accepts his offer of an embrace wholeheartedly, chin planted against his shoulder as if it’s the first brush of physical affection she’s had in ages  ( and it very well might be ).   ❛ i have always envied how easily you express that love and kindness. i know many that would do well to learn from you. ❜

𝐒𝐎𝐅𝐓 𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐒 ♡ @femmaes​ sent ’ you seemed a bit lonely so i thought i could provide some company. ’ ( for yukiko from ivy!)

“Oh, that’s sweet of you,”Yukiko smiles at the other and slides herself over enough so that they have room to sit, “Sorry, I’m not lonely really, just lost in my thoughts,” her gaze peers outside, snow continues to fall-enough that she could full Elsa out there if she really wanted to, “It’s my favorite season, Winter, but I might be a bit bias,” she laughs, but continues to hold her face with her hands while she gazes out the window, “Have you ever ice skated before?” 

          ivy gives her a pleased grin, as if simply happy just to know that she was okay after all, but she holds the nautilus shell she’d imbued with a simple HAPPINESS charm in her pocket - anyone could need it at any time!

          ❛ never, actually! ❜   she replies with a smile.   ❛ i never really snows much where i’m from, and hockey wasn’t big... what about you? you sound like you love it! ❜

“Maybe I do,”and he does, he doesn’t deserve to go through the Hell he does everyday, but he chose to. He made the deal to do so. Talking to an actual Goddess should be offputting, intimidating even, but he’s already dealt with three deities, one of them on a more regular basis than others. Darren just keeps silent though, staring off into the crowd of the random strangers at the club, “But,” he keeps looking forward, “it almost sounds like you want to make me some kind of offer,” he turns to her, “Are you saying you can offer me something better?” 

          nyx offers softness, or at least the best she can; she knows it doesn’t always come by her naturally, so she relaxes herself where she sits as she keeps her voice soft. she can see the pain, the DAILY pain that he’s been coaxed into for survival. even in her powers, she was only truly capable of so much, and even she couldn’t undo a deal made with other gods, but she COULD offer something else, something that came with no strings attached.

          ❛ it would be remiss of me to assume you might find my offer to be BETTER, however... ❜   she begins, pausing for a moment to pick her words carefully.   ❛ what i CAN offer you is safety. protection. the things that you’re forced to do simply in order to wake up in the morning... i cannot undo them. but i can offer you my protection and assistance. ❜
