I joined the DrawAnimeAcademy discord and I’ve been watching their lives, and I was finally inspired to try color blocking. It’s by no means a finished piece, but it looks way nicer than what I normally do and the color blocking method (plus using a single layer) really helped me to break out of my perfectionist tendencies.

Small fantasy worldbuilding elements you might want to think about:
A currency that isn’t gold-standard/having gold be as valuable as tin
A currency that runs entirely on a perishable resource, like cocoa beans
A clock that isn’t 24-hours
More or less than four seasons/seasons other than the ones we know
Fantastical weather patterns like irregular cloud formations, iridescent rain
Multiple moons/no moon
Planetary rings
A northern lights effect, but near the equator
Roads that aren’t brown or grey/black, like San Juan’s blue bricks
Jewelry beyond precious gems and metals
Marriage signifiers other than wedding bands
The husband taking the wife's name / newlyweds inventing a new surname upon marriage
No concept of virginity or bastardry
More than 2 genders/no concept of gender
Monotheism, but not creationism
Gods that don’t look like people
Domesticated pets that aren’t re-skinned dogs and cats
Some normalized supernatural element that has nothing to do with the plot

I’ve done about half of these myself in one WIP or another and a little detail here or there goes a long way in reminding the audience that this isn’t Kansas anymore.
Classes started this week and it has totally consumed my brain, so unfortunately I did not get around to making this week’s drawing.

On the left are his previous designs plus some redesign ideas from my sketchbook. On the right is the final design from this week which I’m actually really happy with.
His race is floren (plant) which means his body sometimes grows moss and lichen, and his hair grows flowers. He can also grow small vines at will if needed. Ahri prefers to present as male, but can change sex at will (not just binary sex, but any mix of sex traits).
As is normal for his people, Ahri had a relatively solitary childhood in the forest, only stepping outside the forest to trade for goods that he couldn’t grow or forage himself. He eventually decided to move into the city when he realized he could provide food and medicinal herbs to people who couldn’t afford it otherwise. He’s mostly adjusted to civilization but still refuses to wear shoes.

I think I mostly fixed it, but I still don’t like how the bat wing transitions into bird wing. How the fuck do I make it look more natural ???
I gave up. There’s no way to make the combo look natural, so I’m just gonna do full feathers

Middle is her running away from home as a teen, right is her as a slave servant, and left is her as some douchebag’s housewife.
Erei was originally created just as Nell’s girlfriend, but has since been fleshed out to be the main character of her own story (so to speak) which focuses around relationships, misogyny, and self-blame.

Extremely unhappy with the second design. I deliberately wanted the clothes to be plain and the pose to be timid, but it just came out bland.
I was initially going to give her a skirt, which I think I’m going to go back to, and I want to keep the shoes, bandana, and color scheme the same.
Any ideas to improve the design are appreciated.
they may look like a couple of train wreck doodles, but i’m much happier with the designs which i think is more important than making them nice
