Susan Pevensie (Chooses Her Own Kingdom)

Aslan told Susan to make her own kingdom, and so she did- and she decided that she didn't want to rule anymore, save in the courtroom, for those brief moments where she can protect others, the only thing she still cares about from those days seated on the throne.

She turned down heaven for a life of sin and sloth, where her castle is built out of concrete and the queer underground and a life where lipsticks and nylons are not chains but rather keys.

Susan Pevensie doesn’t have to be a High Queen anymore. Hell, she doesn’t even have to be a queen.

She is more than happy to worship two queens of her own, kissing the last of the glitter still lingering in Abraham's beard, pulling Claudia in to rest her head on Susan's shoulder.

Katniss: You taught me how to scream into a pillow and lie to the government.

Thinking about how when I was a kid and I read those books, to me the therapist seemed like either a punchline — about how ineffective therapy is for someone as uncommunicative as Katniss, how little talking to one would change about her profound trauma and grief, or about how shitty mental health care would be in Panem — or an example of people around Katniss being negligent with her well-being.

But then I think back on it, and like…I actually think napping though their appointments, not forcing Katniss to engage, was the best thing that therapist could’ve done for her.

Katniss did not have a choice about going to those sessions. After Prim died and Katniss was burned and mute and grieving beyond what words could describe, Katniss was forced to see a therapist by the new regime.

And even if Coin didn’t personally order that the Mockingjay receive counseling, as a way to find out if Katniss still had the presence of mind to oppose her…I have no doubt she and dozens of others would’ve had access to anything and everything Katniss said during those mandated therapy sessions.

I’m not gonna pretend Katniss did not profoundly fucking need some professional help after all she went through. But when she’s receiving professional counseling at the end of Mockingjay, it’s a total farce — Katniss’s well-being is not the point, not in the least because she still has received no catharsis, no certainty that the horrors of war are over.

Not forcing Katniss to say anything, especially anything incriminating, was probably the kindest thing that therapist could’ve done. He let her heal and piece herself back together mentally, in a place where Katniss felt safe.

When she’s sent bad to 12 Katniss says her therapist testified on her behalf during her trial. That he told the court she was mentally unwell and couldn’t be held accountable for killing Coin. She presents it as though it was some kind of grand deception, a sneaky trick to keep her out of jail.

Haymitch is like "Yeah, so this person is related to this person who's related to this person and things are this way because of this and this thing actually came from here and this person is actually my best friend and also here's this extra tidbit of random info cause all my lore dropping comes with it's own additional bonus content and all my unnecessary commentary."

It was - get rid of Finnick, people tell him too much and like him too much

It was - get rid of Mags (she’ll volunteer to save anyone), she’s always been too much of a rebel and cares more about the tributes than the games (i.e. hiding Finnick from cameras)

It was - get rid of Beetee, we’re finally done with him (I want to know why he’s suddenly disposable though). But let’s make it as awful as possible and remind him every day what his son was feeling in his own last days

It was - get rid of Wiress (and also show the world what she’s become) because she never should have won (and we’ll show people what happens when you think you’re smarter than the Capitol)

It was - get rid of Johanna Mason, we killed everyone she loved and it didn’t break her enough so now we can’t control her

And of course, it was - get rid of those rebels from 12

But it wasn’t just punishment for Katniss. She had no idea how influential and volatile of a group they were.
