hi im back to overanalyse the current ratiorine/aventio meta
this is by no means something that goes ignored in their depictions but their "i'm trying/i've tried, we're both surviving" dynamic is so important to me. it's always there under any art anyone makes, there's always that resigned tiredness that is under all the situations people put them in, whether they're distant or close, dead or alive, together or not- that feeling of "we're both still breathing, and that's all that matters, i think" is always there
and i think that's been the case ever since the 3.9 patch too- there was a lot going on but ratio telling aventurine that he CHOSE to forever stay sober is so telling about their entire dynamic. it's him saying "i tried, and you're trying, and you're choosing to live".
ratio calls himself a "mundanite", but i think it's safe to say that his feelings of hurt and bitter hate for his past have almost entirely dissolved- he knows he's brilliant. he's secure in his position as a teacher, someone who can impart knowledge to the ignorant world around him. he managed to get to tomorrow.
aventurine's obviously & objectively going through much worse things than ratio has, but at its core they are both people who tried and are trying to stay alive and play the cards life dealt them, with aventurine being the one "learning" from every day, the one in the spotlight, while dr ratio truly does stay back and acts as the "teacher" that is here for aventurine whenever he needs to. he'll be there to comfort and pull aventurine out of the quicksand when he needs to, to give him the answers when life goes awry. aventurine wants to live, and he tries every day to keep running and keep fighting for his right to life. and goddamn it ratio will always have his back, always be his springboard
