Mastery Journal (Month 7)

As this month began, we expanded on the company that we created the static mood boards for last month.

Week 1

We created a logo for the fictitious company we chose last month. In my case it was AMPCAR. AMPCAR began as a amphibious motor vehicle company. In the weeks ahead, I transformed it into an electric vehicle company.

The final logo design was inspired by a shark fin. I also found inspiration from futuristic movies, such as IRobot. I based the company out of Clearwater, Fl and based the colors from the sea water of the Gulf of Mexico.

Week 2

This week, I began to implement the logo on to various items, such as t-shirts, steering wheel badge, and a headrest logo. The purpose of this is to show the versatility of the logo, as shown in transparent, color, and etched.

Another part of the process was to create a dynamic moodboard. for our company. This evolved from the version shown below. I also created a motion graphics logo that works well with the campaign.

Week 3

At the beginning of the month, we chose a topic which we had to create a 2-3 minute video presentation. I chose to create my presentation on Sound Design. I chose several examples from movies and explained how they affect my daily workflow.

Week 4

On week 4, we also began to work on the style guide for our company. For this, I created an interactive .PDF that explains how the brand works and what the guidelines are for maintaining a uniform style throughout it’s use. Unfortunately I was not able to embed the finished style guide into my blog, but I did include the .jpg files. The white bars are actually links that changed color due to the hover function. They are all the same color as the backdrop.

For the introduction I created a new motion graphics logo which I was able to create using full 3D graphics. I also re-created the sound design to fit these new elements. I also placed some motion graphics aspects to the color usage page in order to illustrate the colors with the logo. For the final page, I mocked up a photograph of the AMPCAR vehicle against the backdrop of the beach. This was created on Photoshop 3D.

As this month progressed, new skills were learned, and old ones were polished. I found this course very helpful and learned some skills that have pushed me out of my comfort zone and in turn have made me a better designer.
