「 𝚆𝙴'𝚁𝙴 𝙶𝙾𝙻𝙳𝙴𝙽 」

BACKGROUND:

he’s born & raised in the upper east side of manhattan, ny. he knows nothing else when it comes to home. 

he has an older half brother, who shares the same mother as shane, and is a few years older.

other than that, shane was the product of a one night stand. mia and des, his parents, had met through a party in the UES. once mia discovered she was pregnant, she hadn’t questioned who the father was — since the timeframe hadn’t fit with any other man besides des. she had slept with nobody after him, and the only guy prior was his half brother’s father. 

shane’s grandfather (des’ dad) opposed his inevitable grandchild, rejecting the idea that the future heir to his hotel chain fortune would be none other than a careless one night stand shared between a random woman — who was of a middle class family; another factor frowned upon.

regardless, the two married in hopes of building a family. they were very young and naive, only 21. however the bad blood between family members tore their little unit apart — with shane’s father never truly accepting mia’s first born son, and shane’s grandfather never accepting anybody outside of his direct family. 

with all the tension building up, it earned mia drifting away from her husband until she ended up falling into a longtime affair with what was soon to be shane’s new stepfather. when their scandalous cheating got exposed to the public, an obvious divorce ensued. with only a few years following the incident, shane’s mother remarried to the very same man that she cheated with; which earned shane two new siblings — step-sisters, at the age of 8. 

as hard as his father tried to shield his heartbreak, it was transparent to someone like shane who witnessed his dad falling into dangerous patterns such as coming home hammered and/or high every other night with a string of different women — sometimes, some even just barely older than the teenage shane himself. 

his parents held shared custody, and both lived in manhattan, so it hadn’t been much of a drive between households.

when it came to his mother’s side of the family, he held no resentment towards his step-father for what they’ve done to his dad. in fact, he’s oddly close with the man that cheated with his mom.

there was always underlying bad blood between him and his brother, unfortunately, as shane was born into wealth thanks to his father’s side while the other hadn’t been so lucky. not to mention, mr. valentine was never the most welcoming step father at the time, and when he’d grown sick and tired of hearing stories of his younger brother throwing raging parties on his father’s yacht, or at their mansion-like household, shane’s older brother decided to rob his former stepdad blind. always having been a bit more on the thuggish side, he’d had his group that he rolled with who joined in on the idea. but when shane caught wind of his plan the night it was occurring, he had decided to stand by his dad’s side and ratted his brother out to the police — who ended up catching the older sibling red-handed in the act. it was then that he’d been arrested and sentenced behind bars for five years.

PRESENT TIME:

it’s been only a couple of years since the new valentine scandal — his brother’s imprisonment. shane doesn’t like to talk about what he’d done, betraying his sibling and having to live with the fact that he’s the sole reason his life is miserable. 

currently, shane is entering his senior year at SJU in queens, ny — where he also lives, solo, in a 1br apartment just off campus.

he’s majoring in business management, as both his dad and step father yearn to have shane one day run their chains. 

on the weekends, he’s mainly found returning to manhattan where he’ll sleep over at the penthouse suite in his father’s hotel after a wild night out on the town.

PERSONALITY: 

quick overview: shane is sarcastic and it can come across as pretty asshole-ish; which he’s also capable of being at times as well.

especially when drunk — then he definitely has a habit of disregarding other’s feelings.

due to his father’s whore-ish ways and his mother’s cheating, he’s not exactly been exposed to healthy relationships. this 100% shows when it comes to his love life. it’s also the reason why he’s not necessarily one to be so quick to sleep around (unless otherwise under any sort of influence and/or pissed off/hurt)

he’s always one to love a good party, getting drunk/high, and just having a good time. not to mention, get a bit reckless. only a LITTLE. heh

however he’s also highly intelligent and takes his school work very seriously.

he’s extremely OCD - likes everything to be in the same place, always uptight with cleanliness.

shane is also very hard to get to open up about his thoughts or feelings, always more of a listener than a talker, and always one to turn to sarcasm as a means of defense against someone trying to get him to talk.

due to his mother’s middle class upbringing, he’s learned to be very humble with his wealth and doesn’t like to flash it often - unless using it as a means to throw a party.
